Peace

Nov 05, 2008 22:01

I woke up this morning with a great sense of peace. I woke knowing that my daughter would have no memory of the Bush Administration and the fear it created in its own citizenry. Reganomics would hold no sway over her; at some point she may find it ironic that those who lambasted Democrats as socialists and redistributionists had always argued that, if left unfettered to accumulate wealth, the rich would of their own accord allow their good fortune to trickle down to those upon whose backs they stood. I woke knowing that, unlike her father, she would never look around her classroom and think that either she or any of her friends would be precluded from seeking national elected office because their names didn't sound like the people that had come before.

I woke knowing that she is going to live in a fundamentally different world than I, and that it holds promise for her and her children. Every generation is a steward of this earth for the next. And it is high time we took charge of our own destiny.
