Two-Line Movie Review: Tangled

It's like that scene in Clockwork Orange where Alex and the droogs break into the writer's house, except it's Disney breaking into Dreamworks' house, and as they have their way with the Dreamworks formula they're saying, "THIS is how it's done. You don't need snarky pop-culture references to make a quality family picture. I'm siiinging in the ( Read more... )

Hey Lee, or perhaps I should say Dear Reichsmarshall :) I have been a watcher on your LJ for a while now, and I have loved what you have done with the place.

I am currently undergoing a project to write those people who have in one way or another touched my life. Made it deeper, more meaningfull, more silly and fun or all of the above. I like to think this is a laudible thing anyway, but sadly the reason I am pushing foward with this is a little grim.

To quote a line "You know the type of cancer you recover from? This ain't it". Whilst it isn't a matter of days or weeks, I don't have that long. But I am doing what I can whilst I can.

If I can indulge in a small story. It was a road trip somewhere. My friend asked if I had heard of Lee Presson and the Nails. I blinked a little as she went on to say how they were this awesome, crazy fun and talented band and I would love them. I can't recall which album they played at the time, but they were right.

Since then you have given me a whole lot of crazy joy and fun tunes, and have been part of the soundtrack to many of the cool moments of my life.

And your LJ is a great read.

The other thing I meant to thank you for is something you did for the same friend. Some mutual friends (lederhosen, reynardo) of ours got to a gig, and somehow got you and some of the band to record a callout of "Hello Ceredwyn" something that I know she loved immensely. And to me it cemented the fact that you are one of the good guys. Not sure she ever wrote to thank you for it but I am.

One of my (sadly many) regrets is that the state of the US healthcare system means that even if I end up with a long enough period of good health to travel I won't ever get to see you live. But know that over the coming two years (hopefully more, maybe less) you and your music will be part of what keeps me sane (or crazy in good ways).

Please keep up your wit, sense of style and awesome music and keep on swinging.

Lachlan.

PS If I may ask a favour of you? Which I am of course reluctant to do, only reason is that I am is that it is for someone else, not me. But the friend in question in both above stories is called Ceredwyn, Silverblue on LJ. She just had a baby and is having a hard time of it. If you could maybe drop her a tiny line on LJ it would make her day I am sure.

Thanks again.
