Hey everyone! Here's the beginning of a songfic i'm writing... the song i'm using is Dido's Mary's in India... i just changed the lyrics a bit as you can see... hahaha. (i know i know, i can see you rolling your eyes at my phail) XD
anyway, i hope you'd read it... i aplogize for all the angst... but it's gonna get better soon. i promise. ;)
this was inspired by the prompt
jishu gave me -- Music store. although the fic doesn't tackle the prompt directly, it still is sort of related... the prompt led me back to a memory...i walked into tower records (a music store in a mall i used to visit often) several years ago and spotted dido's album. i was so in love with it. especially her song white flag. i was debating whether to get it or not. i really wanted it. but who was i kidding... i was barely 13 and i didn't have money... so like. i forgot about it... now that i actually do have money and my own laptop, i downloaded her album off the internet and here, i listened to the song Mary's in India (also in the album) and thus came up with this songfic... hahaha...
i know it's been a long time... but hey... *shrug*... thanks
jishu ! ;)
title: Donghae's in China (Part 1)
disclaimer: I don't own any of the SuJu boys. T_T i don't own the song either.
pairing/s: My OTP of course! EunMin forever! oh and Eunhae (gosh i can't believe i actually wrote some Eunhae) and some Henhae (if you look hard enough ;) XD)
quirks: a glimpse at how the rest of SuJu copes/turns out with the absence of Hankyung, Siwon, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Donghae
summary: Donghae's left for China along with the rest of the boys of SuJu-M... but just as the sun rises on Donghae, it's setting for someone else on the other side of the border...
let's begin...
------------
Eunhyuk is lonely
Cause Donghae's in China now
He said he'd call but that was three weeks ago
Sungmin couldn't believe it's already been almost a month since Ryeowook, Siwon, Hankyung, Kyuhyun, and Donghae left for China to form Super Junior - M. Yeah, the loss of five people from the usually chaotic and noisy dorm proved to be a great change, especially for... especially for... everyone, to say the least.
Sungmin himself pouted more often lately. The absence of Kyuhyun from the dorm made him quite lonely. Who else was Sungmin going to tease? Who else was Sungmin going to order around? Who else was Sungmin going to have fun with? True, there were still other people who existed around him, and he still had many friends, but Sungmin had just grown so close to Kyuhyun that it was hard imagining spending time with another person.
Eeteuk always moped around the kitchen, sighing wistfully as he pulled a cereal box from the cabinet. He missed the days when Hankyung would cook them some Beijing Fried Rice and some random viand for their everyday meals. Now that the usual cook was gone, Eeteuk was forced to try something new, pot and pan in hand, stove ablaze. Kangin knew full well that Eeteuk in the kitchen spelled disaster and this was really something he could substantiate with scraps of evidence he had collected over the past several days.
True, Kangin and Shindong were the ones who suffered the most when it came to the lack of food. Eeteuk didn't have the special talent of making what used to be edible ingredients edible food. Although Kangin had to admit Eeteuk tried, tried so hard in fact, but still, he knew that anything was better than guacamole kimchi pasta or steak drowning in XO sauce. Yes. He very much prefered the classic instant ramyun cup instead.
Heechul, meanwhile, had become more out of hand than he already usually was... if that's even possible. His fits of whining and his mood swings would come more often since he wasn't used to the lack of attention being given to him. Hankyung and Siwon were his main admirers and were always there, open and willing to submit to any of Heechul's bothersome requests.
Well, Hankyung really didn't have a choice, and if he had a say, he'd like to avoid Heechul's sissy fits. But really, if he refused the boy then Heechul was bound to throw something expensive or hard at him, and Hankyung knew that the threat of pain was pure blackmail. Siwon on the other hand, being the gentleman he was, would always politely obey whatever Heechul asked of him. In the dorm, he was considered the sole protector of Heechul, pressing his body against his hyung to calm him down if he was angry, and shielding him with strong arms from the other members' attempts to knock some sense into Heechul's head. With Siwon absent, Heechul had received quite a number of bonks on the head and kicks on the shin, and he so didn't like it at all.
In another corner of the world, Yesung was going through the boxes buried within his closet. No one really knew why he was stuck there most of the time, but they did notice a few things. For one, Yesung hasn't sung his heart out in ages. Everyone knew that Yesung was one of the best vocalists in the group and it was no surprise that he'd just randomly burst into song being the dork that he was. However, Yesung hasn't done that at all in the past three weeks, and whenever they sang, they knew Yesung's heart and mind wasn't into it. There was no feelings at all. All he gave were stage performances, not exactly real ones. Yesung didn't tinker on the keyboard as often as he used to before, too. Whenever Leeteuk would ask him about it, the younger boy would simply say that he wasn't inspired to write a melody. But if anyone really knew any better, they'd quickly conclude that Yesung was just missing his favorite partner in all things under the sun -- Ryeowook.
Now, as for Kibum, well, he wasn't in the dorm most of the time anyway. He was always out, busy working on another television soap opera or whatnot. He would come home once in a while, usually on Sundays and bring some pastries for the other members to enjoy. When he did come home, Leeteuk would offer to cook for him, but of course, Kibum took the sane route and decided to decline saying that he was still full from a previous meal. The only reason why Leeteuk offered to cook something up for him was because Kibum always seemed to look weary. Of course, he was probably tired from all the late shootings and interviews and appearances. Leeteuk even wondered if the boy still remembered to have fun.
Kibum's idea of fun was sitting on the couch while huddling over the PSP or watching the figures on the TV screen move with explosions in high definition. When he was doing the latter, he was usually pressing the controller's keys while sitting on the floor beside Donghae. With his gaming buddy gone, Kibum became bored and decided to drown himself in work to keep him occupied. The PSP didn't seem to work its magic on him like it used to, and PS3 games were more fun if they were in 2-player mode.
However, if there was one person who suffered the most because of Donghae's absence, it had to be Eunhyuk, Donghae's absolute best friend in the whole wide world for life. Eunhyuk, who was usually like a monkey, galloping around the dorm, glomping people, and chasing Donghae, was now in his room and kept to himself more often. It surprised everyone - how Eunhyuk could be so reserved, but they'd rather have the old lively Eunhyuk back.
Without Donghae, it really seemed that Eunhyuk had lost a part of his strength and joy. His smiles weren't as bright as before and his laughter lacked a certain spark. Everything was sweeter with Donghae in the mix. Without him, it was just bland, and boring, and to Eunhyuk, almost dead.
When the rest of Super Junior were sending off the members of Super Junior - M at the airport, Eunhyuk was teary-eyed and refused to let go of Donghae. He knew that China really wasn't that far from South Korea, and he knew that Donghae would be gone primarily on business, but still, it didn't change the fact that Donghae would be in another country, not sleeping in the same room as he [Eunhyuk] was, not eating the same meals at the same table at the same time. Eunhyuk knew that he'd miss all the times they've spent together. It wasn't goodbye, but he was sure that it'd be a long time until they'd be able to see each other again. For this reason, Eunhyuk made Donghae promise to call him the moment he stepped onto China and everyday after that. It would kill their phones and their bills would spike, yeah, but Eunhyuk didn't mind, as long as he got to talk to Donghae, he'd be fine.
Eunhyuk shouted out his reminder for Donghae to call him and some strings of "I'll miss you!" and "Take care!". It was all Donghae heard until he finally became obscured from view once he entered the terminal gates.
Donghae left Eunhyuk a text message saying that he arrived in China safely. Eunhyuk quickly dialled Donghae's number and the two proceeded to tell each other stories about what happened on the way back to the dorm and stuff that happened on the plane ride. The two exchanged phone calls for about three days, but on the fourth, Donghae didn't call. Eunhyuk tried reaching him but his cellphone was always left unattended. In China, the Super Junior - M boys started to get busy, and establishing a fan base while shooting a music video was hard work. Donghae felt guilty that he couldn't really set aside enough time for Eunhyuk, but he had his priorities set -- or at least the ones his manger set for him.
He left all his things, well, his books and his letters from him
But as the sun rises on Donghae, it sets on him
Two weeks before the Korean members of Super Junior - M left for China, Eunhyuk and Donghae were lying on the field after they finished their soccer game. It was already twilight and stars were starting to twinkle in the navy blue sky. Both of them were quite tired from their previous tryst so they just lie there panting, while, at the same time, laughing at something the other just said. They were stuck in a moment -- so random and pure, and this is what Eunhyuk lived for.
Eunhyuk thought they were stuck in limbo. He having Donghae all to himself. He thought that they'd be together forever, because that's just how absolute best friends in the whole wide world for life work. So, naturally, he didn't expect anything when Donghae started talking about his soon-to-be colleague in Super Junior - M, a certain Chinese boy imported from Canada, Henry Lau.
Eunhyuk listened intently as Donghae raved on and on about how amazing it would be to work in a foreign country, learn a new language, interact with different people. Eunhyuk listened to how amazing Henry was. The boy was said to be an awesome violin player and he already came with great dancing skills and looks to boot. Yeah, he was still pretty young, but he really showed a lot of potential.
Donghae started to talk more and more about Henry - about his singing voice, about how sweet he looked, about how his cheeks were so adorable when he smiled. Donghae was being all excited about it, and Eunhyuk didn't mind. After all, Donghae got excited about a lot of things, most of them were really useless, like aliens or biscuits. What Eunhyuk really took notice of was that sparkle in Donghae's eyes. Whenever he was excited, Donghae's eyes would have this natural twinkle, and now as he was talking about Henry Lau was no exception.
So, Eunhyuk, being naiive and confident that things between him and Donghae would never change, didn't really mind when he found out one day after Donghae's departure the boxes on Donghae's bed. He sorted through them and found out that Donghae apparently left photo albums and letters. These were photo albums that contained their pictures together - their trip to the theme park, their countless nights out to the movies, and their "date" to the Haunted House last Halloween among other stuff. The letters were the folded pieces of paper they used to pass notes to each other during briefings with their managers or events. Eunhyuk and Donghae never did letters in envelopes. They thought that those were just too stuck up, formal, and old.
The fact that Donghae left behind all their memories together didn't really hurt him at first. It just left him puzzled. As Eunhyuk put back the photo albums and letters in Donghae's box, he sat on the bed. Once he was done tidying up, he lay down. He wasn't used to the feeling of Donghae's bed being empty. They always used to hang out here and wrestle or hug each other. On random nights when either of them was feeling bored, scared, or lonely, they'd just huddle under the covers together and talk, laugh, and eventually fall asleep in each other's arms. Eunhyuk thought about those moments, and with his nostalgia, he drifted off to sleep as a single tear unconsciously trailed down his cheek.
And just dance, and just drink
And just see the things I'll probably never get the chance to see
What anyone didn't know was that Sungmin was watching Eunhyuk from the doorway. The door was left slightly ajar so when Sungmin heard some faint sniffles coming from inside the room, he decided to peep in and see what was the matter. The sight that greeted Sungmin was definitely heartbreaking.
In all honesty, Sungmin never expected to see Eunhyuk so broken. The departure of the SuJu-M members was tough on everyone, but really, Eunhyuk's sadness was taking on a whole new level. For a few more minutes, Sungmin just watched Eunhyuk sob and eventually fall asleep on Donghae's bed in silence. He didn't feel up to the task of stepping in there and giving Eunhyuk a hug. For some weird reason, he felt as if he was afraid. He was afraid that if he embraced the other boy, he'd just end up crushing him to pieces.
Sungmin knew Eunhyuk was very fragile at the moment. He knew this truth even more than Eunhyuk himself. The most reasonable course of action was to distance himself from Eunhyuk - to let the younger one have some time alone to think or to mourn. But Sungmin knew that he had to help his friend, just as others in the dorm were helping him cope. Letting Eunhyuk have some alone time was a good idea, but then, with their friendship spanning over several years, Sungmin knew better. He scrapped his first idea of letting Eunhyuk be by himself because Sungmin knew that Eunhyuk didn't do very well when he was alone. His tryst of being apart from Donghae was a tough battle for him and he couldn't afford to suffer alone. No, if Eunhyuk suffered alone, well, it wouldn't be very good for his physical or mental health.
Sungmin knew that Eunhyuk was someone who wanted to be hugged, someone who needed companionship. He needed someone to be there fore him. But wait, don't get Eunhyuk wrong. He was very much capable of surviving on his own, yes, but he wasn't very much capable of being happy on his own. That was what Donghae was there for, and with Donghae gone, well, people could probably put two and two together and see what happens.
Sungmin's thoughts carried him inside the room. He walked until he was near the bed and he breathed out a sigh. He gave Eunhyuk a sympathetic look and reached under Donghae's pillows for a blanket. He covered Eunhyuk with it and sat beside the sleeping figure. Eunhyuk let out a soft moan, signifying that he felt the warmth of the blanket come over him.
Sungmin began to run his hand along the younger boy's forearm as an affectionate gesture. This was the first time Sungmin had ever done something like this for Eunhyuk. It was true that they were pretty close even before Super Junior debuted. They've been through a lot of things - funny, sad, stupid,or happy, but still, Sungmin has never done something like this. He was used to comforting Eunhyuk. He's done it a thousand times before, but never in this circumstance. He knew that he was dealing with something bigger than the death of a pet goldfish or a bad review from an anti.
That night Sungmin took it upon himself to pick up the pieces... of Eunhyuk's broken heart.
Eunhyuk was too innocent or too dense to actually know what his heart was telling him. He loved Donghae even more than just a best friend in the whole wide world for life. Moreover, Eunhyuk was too innocent or too dense to actually know what Donghae was telling him by leaving all their memories behind in Korea, not opting to bring them with him to China. Sungmin had a hunch of what Donghae was trying to get across, but he couldn't rule out anything just yet. He had to call Donghae and hear it from him personally - the reason why he didn't bring a single letter or photo with Eunhyuk, no, not even one.
