Take a chill pill already and just relax...

Maybe it's because I'm just so laid-back in my normal life that I can't understand this. I don't know. I still don't get it.

If you win something (argument, contest, online multiplayer, whatever) on the internet (which includes PC and console gaming), tell me, what have you really won?

Bragging rights? Worthless "gamer points?" The ability to rub it in the other person's face and gloat?

What is it that you really win?

As far as I can tell, and am concerned, the answer is... Nothing.

The point of a game isn't to win, but to have a good time while playing it. This is true even of board games and such.

So why do people take it so personal?

It's a game. It's meant to have fun with. Not get all bent out of shape when things don't go your way.

Seriously, what good will getting (or for that matter, failing to get) that "achievement" do for you in the real world? What good is it to tout that you have x number of gamerscore?

It just means that you're a good gamer or a cheat. It doesn't pay the bills. It doesn't go to work for you. It doesn't do anything in your real everyday life.

So why get all bent out of shape when something prevents you from getting it?

It's a game. And no matter how great it is, that's all it is. And it's not that great.
