It’s pretty much understood by all parties involved that Brian doesn’t like David. David is the guy taking his best-friend-since-14 away, turning him into someone he isn’t, making Mikey realize that everything Brian believes in is for shit.
Yet Brian seldom actually crossed swords with David himself, because he’s beginning to see (ten years too late) that maybe Debbie has been right all along, and at the end of the day he really does love Mikey.
But Brian is still Brian- the Liberty Avenue by-word for ‘competitive’- so he fucks with Mikey’s head instead, and lets Michael do the messing-up.
