Since, you know, it was for you and your opinion was the one that I was most worried about :-) It's my first (and likely only) non-B/J fic, so I'm very relieved that you enjoyed it. And thank you for the challenge of writing it! I learned quite a bit from experimenting with the style.

I tend to get intrigued about minor/supporting characters because they're seldom fleshed out to any significant degree, and I thought to get into the mind of one of Brian's tricks. Because even though in the show they're basically props, one shouldn't forget that this is to make a point, rather than claiming that all tricks are just objects.
