Sam in this 'verse is a very private person, out of necessity, and Dean realises that being able to see this, being shown this, really proves that Sam trusts him.

Thanks for the comment!

Oh. sweetie! I was so excited when I saw this on my flist. Of all the 5D5D, I always had a special fondness for KDS. I love this. I love how within the first paragraph I was right back in the feel of the whole KDS arc and mythology.

Dean's beginning to realise that there's more to this story than he knows, just like he's beginning to realise that maybe Sam hasn't changed as much as he’d thought. I love this most of all, that despite everything Sam is still Sam, still Dean's little brother.

Dean's beginning to realise that as well, even more than he did during the bits and pieces of KDS. I've always had this as plot in the back of my head, that there was a reason for Marinette doing what she did, and that moment of regret from her in Mississippi, before Sam bound her, this is why. She missed him, and, to some extent, he missed her. He did what he had to, because he had to, but he didn't take any pleasure out of it, and his constant repetitions of 'this is what I have to do, this is my job' were as much for him as for everyone else.
