Okay, so I just finish leaving my insane comment on the last chapter and this appears. Perfect frigging timing. But I'm so sad about Bobby! I know, I've romanticized him way too much in my mind as some kind of doting uncle, and he still retains some of that aspect in this chapter... see this just comes back to what I was saying in the last chapter about you not pulling any punches about the reality of this situation, and how bad it really is. People who have known Sam and Dean since childhood are backing away, and in the hunting community that's pretty significant.

But I digress on that point. Something I really love is the speech patterns for the different loa, especially Latwa's. Buckaloose just killed me, seriously, I love it so much. I love that Sam owns the cafe, among other things. I love that Dean seems to have hit a turning point in this chapter,

I’m tired, you’re tired, so we’re going to go sleep, and when we wake up, I am going to fuck you so hard you won’t be able to walk for a week and you’ll be a cranky little bitch about it Not only is this a very hot image, but it's also just so Dean, with the gruff, sarcastic love and I've been waiting for this for nine chapters and then it's here and there's cuddling-in-bed, which is pretty much exactly what I asked for in my last comment.

“Get some rest, you crazy voodoo king,” Dean mutters, and Sam snorts in amusement before they both fall asleep in the middle of a Savannah afternoon, sounds of traffic and the smell of jasmine blowing in the open window. I love this like crazy, I love that they're just relaxing together, that Sam really is a crazy, voodoo king but Dean can joke about it, and I love the idea of jasmine and open windows, it's so gorgeous and simple and perfect.

I loved your insane comment! And yes, I hear you about Bobby. I tend to romanticise him a lot as well, I think most fic-writers do, and I was going to do the same here, but the more I thought about it, I was like, y'know, this vodou? John's worried about people going after Sam, Gordon does, and no one's telling Dean a thing. Why would Bobby be any different, just because he knows them? Or, rather, because he knows them, how is he going to react differently? and this happened. It is bad, it's not good, never good, and if I can show it in how Bobby reacts instead of out-and-out saying it, that's the way I'll choose every time, no matter how much I personally dig Bobby.

Yay speech patterns! Perhaps one of the most fun parts to writing this, trying to write the loa differently, even when they're mostly just riding one person.

I love the idea of Sam unwinding enough to cuddle with Dean, to flop all over him, sort of the physical equivalent of verbally saying, 'Yes, you're back, you're mine,' but with that...distance, still, where nothing's been said or admitted to. Different layers of commitment and meaning.
