a day at the tracks (no not horse racing)

my dad just turned 55 (i think) this past week. i traveled up to zhu hai, china on a ferry to watch him race at the tracks. it's not his first time racing, but it's my first time watching. my sister and mom couldn't make it, so i went on my own to watch. i was reluctant to go at first, but how often am i gonna see my ol' man racing on a superbike?

i checked into my hotel room and joined my father and his teammates for dinner in the city. zhu hai, about an hour and a half for the bustling guangdong city of shenzhen, is surprisingly clean and friendly - unlike most of the rest of urban china. im gonna tell u guys.. food and living is mad cheap in china. if u ever want to have it easy, go to china and you will live like a king for the rest of your life. just invest in a little property, wait about 10 years and watch the value sky-rocket like crazy. there's a saying about china that goes: when the giant awakes, the world will shake. i think it'll hold true.

We woke early the next day to prepare at the tracks. it was hot as FUCK. hmm let's see, 35 celsius is about 95 fahrenheit. my jeans were sticking to my legs and i came home with a strange t-shirt tan on my chest. i felt sorry for the racers who had to wear all their protective gear and leather suits in such heat. the suits weigh a good 15lbs (maybe im terrible at guesstimating). one of the racers slid off the tracks from heat exhaustion - ouch. i saw quite a few people wipe out. it's not fun to watch, but it's like you have to stare.

formula renault racing was first on the agenda, then the bike races followed. i think watching f1 racing on tv the night before got me pretty hyped. for a guy my dad's age, he did really well in competition with guys in the same racing class in their 20s and 30s. the races were seriusly fun to watch in general, and i met a lot of super down people on the tracks. seeing female racers there was a plus. i would like to acquire a bike for myself now! (watch out! lol) im really glad i went in the end. i promise i'll have pictures up from the event ASAP.
