Notes: Made for waywardmixes's Theme 12: family. I tried to keep this mix firmly on the brotherly love side of things, but it might have gotten slashy? sorry, but these two are my Godfather otp and it's hard to avoid taking things in that direction.

Michael realized with a faint twinge of jealousy that in many ways Sonny and
Tom Hagen were closer than he himself could ever be to his own brother.

The Godfather
The Godfather franchise follows the Corleone crime family, which is lead by Vito Corleone,
who immigrated to America at an early age from Italy. His four sons and one daughter are
all, in one way or another, involved in the family business.
Tom & Sonny
Tom Hagen is, in all but legal terms, Vito's adopted son (he is never legally adopted
since Vito views it as disrespectful to Tom's birth father), brought into the Corleone family
at age twelve by Vito's oldest son, Sonny. The novels offer two different backstories for
his adoption; both portray Tom as an orphan living on the streets, plagued by a bad eye
infection, who Sonny brings home.
Tom lives with the Corleones for the rest of his youth. Him and Sonny are the closest of all
their siblings even though the two are complete opposites - Tom is calm and patient, while
Sonny is passionate and temperamental. Sonny eventually drops out of school to join the
family business, while Tom goes onto law school, which Vito pays for. The Family Corleone
emphasizes that Tom desperately wants to join the family business in order to pay back
Vito and Sonny's kindness and to a certain extent, protect Sonny. In the end, he becomes
Vito's legal advisor.
Sonny dies in the first Godfather film, shot down by a rival family. In the book
The Godfather's Revenge, a vengeful former member of the family murders
Tom by driving his car into a Florida swamp and leaving him to drown.

his whole life, but Sonny. Sonny Corleone, who was dead. Shot to pieces. But
what he saw was Sonny, as a boy, in that alley.
