Yesterday was Super. Took my lil sis and her friend Caitlin in my car to Amoeba in the Haight to see Devandra. Met up with my friend Katherine and Gilles for awesome spots for the show, really close. It was lovely to see Devandra and hear the songs from the new album, Smokey Rolls Down the Mountain, live. It was also great to see all of the interresting and beautiful people at the show. I love the Bay Area. As much as I have fallen in love with L.A. and Hollywood in the last few weeks, i still love the diversity and love that permeates all of the beautiful aesthetics of this area. After the show, i took all the kids into Golden Gate Park to help me get some footage for the Advanced Editing Lab I'm taking at CCA. I had my sister, Helen, falling backwards with her arms spread onto the ground in a couple of locations, shooting from an ariel perspective. It was fun, and funny. Helen is such a great actress, and who knew shed be so good at falling backwards!!! I think it is from all of the gymnastics, that she was able to fall backwards bravely and realistically without hurting herself. I'm going to edit the footage so that it looks like she is falling outside and then cuts to falling onto her bed and then flying back up out of her bed and up outside and then back again...we shot some other things, too. Here are some pictures of me being a cinematographer/director.
you can see the lush foliage we found for her to fall in, with trees to climb up for the arial shot. the footage looks really great!
This was for another shot in which she was just spinning around, but will edited to match/jump cut to spinning indoors.
Getting video footage can be really difficult these days, especially with everyone's increased suspisions and anxieties about suveillance. There are alot of crazies and drug dealers in the park who harassed us a couple of times because, "the drug dealers can't work around here cuz you have that camera out.." etc. I mostly just ignore them, unless them seem really insane and volatile. I kept my cool, and we got the footage i wanted.
Afterwards we had crepes and then saw The Expendable play at the Phoenix. Like I said, it was a good day. I always feel good after capturing footage that looks like i imagined it to!
