Upon briefly relfecting on the analogy, he realized that it wasn't technically an analogy but a description, and he decided that his inner monologue was on the fritz and that maybe he ought to simply ignore it for a while.
All thoughts of inner analogies gave way, however, when he saw the present.

A thick but squat leather volume titled Magical Experimentation For Scholars filled the upper half of the box. Below, crackling paper gave way to a number of smaller objects. A small sack of beads held a note indicating how to use them to track objects, a small roll of red thread with a dubious scent, and lastly a note.

It briefly crossed his mind that Sirius might be slightly annoyed at this. He couldn't think why, exactly, just that he wouldn't approve. He wondered if Sirius' disapproval was enough to stop him from meeting with Regulus. .
