Putting Things Into Motion

Regulus was prepared to do what he must. Before he came to the meal he had secreted the small vial of potion from Snape in a deep pocket, wrapped in a small scrap of cloth.

He sat uncomfortably at the Slytherin table, twisting his neck to watch the joking Gryffindors. Regulus hardly touched his food, he was so focused on the unkind deed at hand. As they neared the end of the meal he began to sweat nervously. Regulus fingered the bottle gingerly, looking over at Noreen for some sign, any sign, that they could not go ahead.

At the end of the meal, having recieved no relieving cues, he stood up stiffly and walked across to the slowly emptying Gryffindor table where Sirius, Peter and some other contented students lounged. Behind his back he palmed the vial, holding it with the stopper ready to come free at a careful prod of the forefinger. He moved in close next to Pettigrew before plastering a smirk on his face and speaking directly to Sirius.

"So, did you enjoy the food flinging at dinner last night? I thought it was rather juvenile, almost too juvenile for even you, Sirius."

He sneered, deliberately provoking his brother and hoping to distract them from Pettigrew's half-empty goblet, so near Regulus' prepared hand.
