New haircut, new layout, a whole new me.

I finished The Corrections. It was brilliant, if somewhat hollywoody in its resolution-heavy ending. Still, it felt real enough so as to not spoil the entire experience.

I'm well into "Oranges..." and casting an excited eye on "The Flaneur" - there it waits as a delicious cherry-on-the-cream-on-the-icing-on-the-cake type reward for being a responsible reader and engaging with quality fiction.

A few preliminary thoughts on "Oranges...". Yes, Jeanette Winterson makes herself sound like the most arrogant bitch in the introduction, and that kind of shines through in the actual writing. But I have to say that so far, her writing hasn't really blown me away. I'm keeping the fact that this was her first novel in mind. The occasional witty remark she makes in the general "things are just moving along" way of writing tends to come off a bit cheap and amateurish. But no final judgement until I've read at least more of her work.

I was just expecting something more OscarWildish from someone who seems to possess an OscarWildian confidence in the greatness of her work.

"Only dull people are interesting at breakfast."

Tomorrow, brunch in the hills.
