Homoerotic content in the mainstream

Here's a comprehensive list (esp. for my own reference) of some relatively recently published works with homoerotic content:

It occurred to me that I have actually borrowed many of these from the local library. Which is a good thing, because we think of how this genre has entered the mainstream. On the other hand, kids could easily get their hands on this. I realized that other day, that I still remember reading a science fiction piece about an alien Master and his male human Pet when I was 14 -- and how reading that scene in Herbert's Dune when I was 15 awakened the notion that men might be interested in boys in that way.

I realized I just gushed this in Sue's LJ... and wanted to log it in mine too:
If I ever do write a novel with homoerotic elements, esp. if it's the first thing I publish, I might be inclined to separate elements/chapters of content that might not be appropriate for underaged readers and publish them separately on an age-locked website.

Might be a little tricky separating out the chapters... but that was one way I thought I could deal with the multiple levels of characterization.

I thought about this when one of the textbooks I was using actually had more online references and worksheets that were limited to those who had purchased the book and could provide more mailing list information about themselves.

This was a good lead generation option too, and nice way for writers to keep in touch with their fans (some writers send direct updates to their fans about upcoming books or area appearances).

And in my dream world, I'd even have room on the site for fanfiction. It'll be a form of authorized fan-fiction. What a notion. ;-) I would really want to provide a nice outlet and help stimulate discussion of the work in general and keep the serious fans coming back. It'll be like "write your own adventure" exercise, so folks can go all out and do what they want. I'm sure someone would say I'm egocentric and that no-one would contribute --- but I figure I can count on one of you guys to slash me good and proper, right?? ;-)
