So, by now, you've all heard my ethernet/phone woes. Allow me to set up a short scenario.....

You go to plug in your computer and find five jacks in a plate. As always, it's not immediately apparent which ones are ethernet and which are phone, though the fact that they're grouped into 4 and 1 in a quad makes you think the 4 are ethernet and the 1 is phone. Before plugging the cables in, however, you notice that the long plug is labeled CAT5, and thus plug ethernet into it. Because after all, it's reasonable for a room of 4 people to want both multiple phones and computers, and switches/hubs are easier to come by than phone line splitters.

Now I'll cut a long story short, because I'm sure you can all guess the ending. (Except sithjawa, who already knows the ending because we talked about it.) Lo and behold, the 4 *were* ethernet and the 1 *was* phone, so now I have access again.

Oh, and though I understand the reasons, wiring the phone line with 8-pin wire (thus allowing CAT5 to fit comfortably) is annoying. If the cord just hadn't fit, I would've realized what was happening.

Okay, enough stalling from work to check my computer. Bye!
