fathers' day

i spent my fathers' day in the best way possible. (no, i wasn't drunk on the side of the street...though that would be fun too.) we kept the time for gift-giving and other fathers' day type things to a minimum. after church, a gigantic load of topsoil was delivered, and we went to work placing borders around parts of the house to eventually landscape in there, and we put topsoil in there, and i filled holes and parts in the backyard that are low and get swampy in the rain. then of course reseeded the grass. and this 8hr-or-so ordeal took up the whole day. and boy, did i move a lot of dirt. but it was fun.

working with your dad on stuff is probably the best way to get to know him. i think i appreciate my dad more now that we've been working on so much crap. though, for the record, this wasn't a walk in the 90-degree park...it was hot as hell. though, for the record, i did wear some sunscreen to keep my face and neck from turning purple. and i'm just thankful that we have air conditioning...

but my dad even said, 'i like that i'm here working with my two sons (the other being dave, who stopped over to help) outside and making the yard look better, but next year, we're gonna sit around and drink beer.'
