One of the articles I was reading today points out that for the Republicans - when wrong attack is the credo. They know they are on the wrong side (something like 70% of all Americans support stem cell research) they not they are *not* saving lives (the cells are disposed of as medical waste) and they can't really debate those truths without losing.

So what left but attack, and defend and counter-attack, and all the while - What isn't being discussed?

This is an old debater's trick of trying to get your opponent to debates things in the terms and ways you want. The verbal equivalent of picking the battlefield.

What the religious right want to avoid at all costs is a honest discussion. To burn away all the superstitions and murky thoughts and ask the question that is really the cause of the concern.

Does a 4 day old clump of cells, something so small you need a good microscope to see it - have a soul? Is destroying something smaller than an ant really the same as murdering a human being?

That is the question they have to deal with.

You can see this in the fact that they have no problems with the procedures or research being done with animal stem cells or stem cells extracted from adults.
