[She could return to the City now, the volcano was another stupid trick by the deities and all the effects had passed a day ago. One that made her flee from her new apartment to the shores of the sea.
"Stupid girl, why didn't you listen to me? I know everything, missy", the demonic monkey mocked her after he finished laughing. He followed her

Having situation himself high in the branches of an arbitrary tree lining the sidewalk, Gaara allowed dispersed sand particles in the air to tell him, let the sand eye observe.
And it noticed a girl talking to herself. With nothing else in the immediate area, Gaara's sand eye followed her.]

Youko made an abrupt stop and instantly grasped the sword she carried with her.
"You're being watched," the blue beasts told her, pressing an index finger on his lips.
Really.]
Who is there?! Come out! I know somebody is watching!

There was something amiss, something different, but lacking anything like a conclusion, he settled fisting his hand; the sand eye crumbled, grains drifting gradually back to the gourd on his back.
It had less to travel when, following the seal shaped by his fingers, the sand moved, and within the instant he no longer perched in the tree but stood some feet from her, arms crossed.]
... Yeah.

What do you want?
[The monkey laughed behind her. He was circling Gaara, even if nobody could feel him but her. They were connected to a level Youko didn't understand.
"Tsk. What else could he want, missy?" he mocked at her obvious question. Her grip on the gold hilt tightened. "What does anybody want? You have no allies or friends. Don't forget you are alone in this world, silly girl."
Youko tried to not be distracted by the monkey's presence and kept her gaze on the boy. Was he around her age? Was he human or a demon like her?]

And the question was interesting - there were a lot of potential answers, of course, especially if one was inclined to be a smart-ass -- Everything OR to go home, isn't that what everyone here wants?. Lucky for their purposes and overall communication, Gaara without fail found smartasses irritating to the point of being near intolerable.
As such, he considered the question, head tilting to one side. Blunt as ever.]
I was bored. You were talking to yourself.

She twisted her expression in a maddened smirk.]
Huh. Maybe I'm crazy and you should leave me alone. Crazy people are dangerous, you know.

A ghost of a smirk crossed his typically expressionless lips.]
Really?

His stupid laughter grated on her nerves.]
I don't have time for this. Go be bored somewhere else.

You have something better to do? Here?

[She had to say it. Stupid it was, she had to say it. The ape was laughing at her loud mouth.]
And it's late already.

That's not difficult.
[Still, it wasn't his business, not in his interest. But ...]
That's meaningless.
[After all, he did not, would not, could not sleep. His gaze shifted, focused on her sword.]
Are you skilled?
Reply
[The sword had stopped glowing and the monkey was gone. She tensed when Gaara asked about her skills.]
What if I am?

[With some discerning, one might have detected a smidgen of amusement. He couldn't deny how useless this was - would almost resent how the City encouraged this sort of thing.]
Then I want to fight you.

[Youko had to stare at Gaara after that answer. When she fought in the past, was because she was in danger. She did feel the thrill of enjoyment after she killed those monsters recently, but she had always defended herself.]
