This unworthy one has seen how such ideals are able to change in just thirty years. The Japan we created after bakumatsu is entirely different from the Japan he knew as a boy. Back then, the concept of a sword that protects over a sword that kills would have been laughed at and seen as an impossibility. But now in Meiji? The idea is beginning to be embraced. Perhaps in another ten years the killing sword will be forgotten entirely ( ... )
