65th Journey [Voice]

Did this work at last? Man, it’s hard to make this strange gizmo work. There’s nothing like this in Kei or in Kou.

Huh. I’ve never thought I would be around here a complete year, but soon it’ll be my anniversary. I came to this strange new world in the Fifth Month, last year, 2008? I never asked but 2008 of what? Reign of these deities? Adjusting ( Read more... )

Your Majesty?

[If anything, Keiki is confused, for she was stating things which Keiki could not understand, and she was threatening him with an umbrella. A hand went up, as if to block or put off any actual attack she might do.]

You were aware of such.

[This city. A curse then, was it? People seemed to have been acting strange today, and a dubious look was cast toward his empress.]

Huh?

[Your Majesty? Youko thought, not letting this strange, blond man have her lower her guard. She is dressed differently, nowhere of the modern masculine clothes she usually had, but a more eastern fashion.]

Who the hell are you and what do you want with me?

Your Majesty, please.

[His perplexed expression only grows, as he gives a sigh, his shoulders drooping. How exactly was he to deal with her, especially as she seemed to have forgotten everything. Still, her wording was enough to give Keiki pause; 'That witch Jokaku had finally passed away', 'still hope next ruler wouldn’t be a woman'.

Perhaps he should go about this in a different manner.]

I mean you no harm.

Stop calling me that way! It's Youshi.

[He was confused. What was he playing at? She was ignoring his majesty addressing and still had her umbrella with her to knock him if he approached. Working in the fields had given her strength enough to take down a willowy-looking man.]

Who are you? How did you get inside?

[His eyes still slipped from time to time between the umbrella and her face. He'd rather not get swatted, or worse, with the object, and she seemed a bit, well, disgruntled.

He dropped down, kneeling before her, his head slightly lowered, though still paying attention to her, listening, for he was in a precarious enough situation as it were.]

It is I, Keiki, and I have been living here since my arrival.

No-No way.

[When he knelt and told her his name all clicked. Blond hair, those features. This one is the Kirin of Kei! The Taiho! She gawked at him. He couldn't be serious.

Her brain just shut from the other explanation.]

[He did not move from his position, even as she went silent before him. No actions or words came from her, and he tilted his head upwards, looking at her. An inquisitive silence was written on his face, almost as if he wondered whether she had remembered.

He had not read anything about curses being broken, but it had not said one way or the other. The look she was giving him wasn't exactly a good sign, in his opinion, though she seemed to register this time what exactly was going on.]

Your-

[but he cut the words off, uncertain if that would provoke another negative response.]

[Her confusion passed and was replaced by anger. Oh, this one was the Kirin who chose that witch who was responsible for her family's deaths and all those misfortunes. What was he doing? Begging forgiveness? She shot him a glare, ready to strike him with her umbrella, but she stopped her shameful behavior.

Kirins couldn't strike back, she would be nothing but a cowardly bully if she attacked him. She took a few steps back, lowering her "weapon" and not dropping the eye contact]

You're not welcome inside my home, Taiho.

[The sudden change was enough to alert Keiki, though he did not move from the position he had taken. She seemed almost ready to attack, though that seemed to flee as she stepped back.

Why was the question he needed answered to a lot of things, though it hardly seemed the time to ask her. The anger was easily evident, though Keiki could not understand it, nor could he understand her statement. The agitation on his face was clearly seen as he remained kneeling there on the ground looking up at her.]

Your Majesty.

[He tried again, his purple eyes rising to meet hers. Whether she seemed to remember or not, she was his ruler, and he was not going to simply leave her alone.]

I'm not royalty. Go away.

[She looked almost frightened when he kept repeating that like a mantra. He was pleading to her? A Kirin wouldn't kneel unless it was to their lord and she couldn't be Empress, it was wrong, not after her life had been looking up. He had no right to ruin it for her and for the people of Kei who were waiting a male ruler to fix everything.

She met his gaze and there was a mix of betrayal, hurt and anger reflected in her eyes. As well as denial.]

I am not your Master. G-Go choose someone else!

The choice has already been made.

[He would have flinched at the look she gave, though his own confusion kept that at bay. Today, it seemed, would be troublesome. At least the umbrella was out of the picture, as he could imagine the look on Enki's face if he learned that he had been swatted with such a thing.

His gaze narrowed, wondering what exactly this curse was. She had changed in some very visible ways, and others less so, though it almost seemed...]

And you are, Your Majesty.

Excuse me?

[She rose her voice again, keeping her gaze held with his. What was he expecting her to just agree to something like this? I think not.]

The Taiho is mistaken. I'm just a humble refugee that lives in Kou, nothing more and nothing less.

I am not.

[He kept to his point. It was stated with that authority in his voice, as if that would drive the point home. She wasn't just anyone, and despite his earlier words with Rin, he believed that this was true.]

You are the Queen of Kei.

I'm just a lowly citizen of Kei, I don't remember acceding to any pledge.

[She argued, growing furious to what she believed was him trying to tell her what she was.]

I'm not a god, I'm a human being.

[It was like walking around in a circle, for he was getting no where. She was as stubborn, if not more stubborn, then when he had first met her in Hourai, and angrier than the woman that he had seen here in this city.

A look flickered in his eyes before his head bowed downward. Nothing was making sense. She knew of Kei and other kingdoms, but she had not known him, despite the fact that he had been the one to bring her back.

It was a conundrum, to say the least.

She had accepted, and yet she was saying that she had not. She was the Emperor, for he still knew that.]

[Youko was growing tired. Fine. He didn't want to leave? So be it. She knew it was wrong to hurt a Kirin and no matter how angry she was at him, it didn't excuse that behavior. He had a chance to fix the mistake he made, chose a man and had Kei flourish. She was waiting for that.

She walked towards him, pass him, heading towards the door. She was too conflicted to face him now.]

Do you want proof?
