Fandom is awesome

Over the weekend, ontd_ai (of which I am a member) and ontd_startrek (of which I am not a member but considering becoming) got into a friendly competition to see who could raise the most money in a 48 hour period for Haiti relief. The pages were set up through UNICEF, and each comm had its own page to keep track of the funds, and the timer was set from the opening of the page (meaning that since _ST had their page set up significantly before we did their 48 hour period ran out first).

I have never been happier to be part of a competition. The entire thing was full of trash talking but remained totally friendly (I even made some new friends from _ST), there were epic macro/.gif battles between members of the two comms, and in the end? We raised a combined total of $31,000. In two days. And we're not done raising money, even though the competition is over. (For the recond, _AI won. :P)

I don't say this to toot my own horn and tell you all how awesome I am - I could only personally donate a small amount. I just say this because sometimes I forget in all the drama why I'm still on the internet. But you know what? This is why.

When we want to be? Fandom is awesome.

Also, if anyone would like to assist our efforts, the _AI Unicef page can be found here, and the _ST UNICEF page can be found here.
