Phoenix Park is modern oasis in contrast to the near derelict appearance of the rest of this district. Set amongst landscaped, naturalistic parkland are well designed, airy, attractive modern buildings for outdoor pursuits, sports and leisure, covering many of the areas not catered for by the pitches and team sports facilities of Silver Street. The wide paved plaza of the pedestrian entrance leads past the soaring rocket-jet of a fountain that cascades back into a circular pool, and on to the signature Phoenix Building- a structure reminiscent of soaring birds' wings or yacht's sails, all sweeping lines and vistas of glass, clean whites and silvers that reflect the sky. From the plaza, a footpath can be seen winding through grassy walks, flowerbeds and scattered trees, past the Half Pipe Heaven Skate Park and the Cascades Water Park. The path heads onwards towards a wide lake with a white marble tiger statue, a waterfall-fed stream beyond, and a little Japanese-style bridge leading to the Sky View Restaurant. To the left is an oval all-weather running track, bleachers, and a hall for racket sports backed by an extensive climbing wall. Around the perimeter is a dirt running track, a cross-country assault course with timber obstacles, and a well-equipped children's adventure playground.

Currently in Saint Claire, it is a cloudy day. The temperature is 39 degrees Fahrenheit (3 degrees Celsius). The wind is currently coming in from the southeast at 3 mph. The barometric pressure reading is 30.19 and steady, and the relative humidity is 92 percent. The dewpoint is 37 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius.)

It's just bout dinner hour for most folks and so the park isn't as crowded as it soon might be. There's a few business people walking through, a handful of moms with strollers, and a scarce few kids on the playgrounds. Naomi is there, sitting at one of the tables that remain out year round, hands in her pockets and eyes on the crowds.

Val breezes over the park in her raven form, then she returns a short time later on two feet. This would explain why she was able to enter the park and head straight for Naomi's bench. "Looking for someone in particular?" Val asks, as she comes up behind the other woman. "Have you had dinner, yet?"

Naomi looks up and over at the woman as she's greeted. "Just people watching. Thinking." She shakes her head, "No, not really hungry tonight it seems."

Officer Amy Hopkins, apparently upgraded from the rather dingy Harbour Park to the more upscale Phoenix Park, strolls through the park, watching the occupants, as mild as a middle-aged couple who're strolling to the restaurant, the woman leaning on the man's arm for support, and then there're the people on the bench.

"About anything in particular?" The small woman queries, as she takes a seat near the once-Garou. "Well, if you change your mind about being hungry, I'm hungry and I intend to head over to the Rat and Raven later. My treat, if you're interested."

Naomi offers a faint smile, "Thanks for the offer. I'm just kinda thinking about things. Things that were, that aren't, that might be. I dunno." She glances around at the park.

Amy veers from her path to head towards Naomi and Val, passing by the couple going the other direction. The woman smiles broadly at each and everyone, pulls her escort to a stop to confide in the women, although they don't know her, "I wish everyone could be as happy as I am. It's our wedding anniversary, Harold and me", she indicates her escort, who looks quite uncomfortable and looks away, maybe in fear of being late and losing his reservation at the restaurant.

Val hmms and scratches at her throat. "And not to be an ass or anything, but could you give me the name of the place where they tried to fix you up? I want to be able to double-check what you've told us. Not saying that you've been fibbing, but I've lived this long by being a touch on the paranoid side." Glancing around the park, Val notices that Amy is rather close by. "Huh. Looks like someone I used to work with at the station, is heading this way."

Naomi looks up at the last bit, perhaps thankful for the incoming distraction as she doesn't answer the other question. "Just a coworker, or, a special kinda coworker?"

Amy nods briefly, murmurs something about congratulations, and the woman goes on, "Harold wouldn't be here today if I hadn't donated my kidney, isn't that right, dear?", and Harold dear looks uncomfortably off into the distance, then urges them towards the restaurant. "Oh, dear, we have to go. He's got a surprise for me, he said", the woman titters as she totters off with Harold dear. Amy continues towards Val and Naomi. "Hi, I thought that was you!", she greets Val, and she smiles at Naomi.

"The type that hands out traffic tickets," Val says with a faint smirk. "I used to do that, for a bit, before switching to working Homicide." That's when Amy arrives and Val offers the new arrival a warm smile and a wave. "Afternoon Amy. How goes the Traffic Ticket beat? I was hearing some rumour about you stumbling across a homicide case awhile back? Jimmy. Yes, it was Jimmy that mentioned it too me."

Naomi looks between the two and gives the newly arrived woman a faint little nod. "Hey."

Amy's cheery until Val mentions the homicide, then she turns a tint of green. "Oh. Yeah, I did. Which Jimmy?", then catches herself with, "Oh, pardon me", she addresses Naomi, "I'm Amy Hopkins. We used to be co-workers", she stretches the definition to possibly its broadest, and offers a hand to shake, should Naomi be inclined.

"Jimmy Sanders, the guy who always gets stuff with call-desk duty," Val says. "This here is Naomi. Military. Stationed here for a bit." The small woman cocks her head to one side, as she studies the traffic cop. "Would it be too much if I asked what you came across? Might not be working Homicide anymore, but I will admit a certain professional curiosity. Know it's a bit grim, but when you work in the field long enough..."

Naomi reaaches a hand out, "Naomi Runner. Nice to meet you." The shake is confident and cool as she nods her head. "If you two wanted to catch up..."

"Nice to meet you", Amy echoes Naomi's sentiments, "Oh, well, it was pretty gruesome, and I don't want to put you off your dinner. Where have you been posted? Afghanistan?"

Val pff. "I worked Homicide for years. I've yet to find anything that'd put me off my dinner."

Naomi looks toward Val, "I've seen her appetite. It's almost monstrous." The dark haired woman grins at this as she turns back toward the police officer. A nod follows, "A stint there. Also Pakistan and Iraq. Egypt for a short hop. Not all were active battle fronts. I've a long list actually."

"Not everyone's got cast iron", Amy tells Val with a roll of her shoulders, then indicates Naomi. She turns back to Naomi, begins, "That's quite--", then there's an almost inhuman screaming from the restaurant, and Harold dear staggers out of it, a dark red stain soaking his shirt, and his wife immediately after him, beating him with her fists and a half empty red wine bottle, "You can't leave me! I gave you the best years of my life! My kidney!"

Val blinks, head coming up, as she focuses on the disturbance. "Uhh. Now, that's something you don't see every day."

Naomi looks over at the sudden exit, eyes wide and jaw dropping, "Dear god, how old are those two anyway??"
Harold dear stumbles for his life towards the group of three women: Val, Naomi, and Amy. His wife continues shrieking, then, inspired with "I want my kidney back!", holds the wine bottle by its neck, smashes its body on Naomi's table, leaving a dangerous-looking weapon in her hand, and much wine everywhere: red blotches on herself, the table, and everything surrounding.

Val yelps and hops on to the top of the table, as she dances out of spray-range. She moves with a surprising amount of grace and dexterity, more than one would typically suspect from the small woman. "Hey lady, calm down. You trying to get arrested for assault?"

Sharp wine bottle means, at least to this special ops girl, that the game's over. Naomi makes her move on the woman, aiming to grab for the arm holding the weapon and pull it down and back behind her until she can drop the bottle. "This goes too far maam. Stop!"

Harold dear gasps, his hand reaching out to the women as if for succor, "She's c-crazy!" His wife, undeterred by the warnings of Val and order of Naomi, lunges for him with the bottle, fury giving her the strength to rip through Naomi's attempted grip. Amy pulls her taser off her belt, warns with a "Stop right there", and her hand flexes, setting off the electric arcing which ignites the alcohol with a sudden whoosh that encloses Harold dear and his wife.

"Oh for the love of," Val starts, then does what she can to get the pair to stop drop and roll. At least the ground is damp and while not very large, Val is particularly good at knocking people off their feet. Seems that she hasn't forgotten all her police training.

Naomi looks surprised first at the woman's ability to escape her, and then a more surprised look as she dances back and away from the sudden swoosh of fire.

The taser drops from Amy's numbed fingers as the policewoman stammers, "Oh, dear god--I--I didn't--", and she stands uselessly in shock, hands trembling. The couple roll under Val's impact. The alcohol, having soaked into Harold dear's shirt, burns with a bright blue flame, melting the polyester into his skin; all other flame quickly goes out.

Val grabs up fistfuls of damp, dead grass, and earth, which she uses to smoother out the last of the flames. Burning her hands in the process. "Amy, call in an ambulance and a squad car. This man needs to go to the hospital and his wife needs to be charged with assault. Move! Now!" She barks out the order at Amy.

Naomi is moving toward Amy, shaking a shoulder to get her moving. Seems she's doing her best to avoid the molten hot burny side of the incident. She glances at the cop and tries to give a ressuring look. "It's alright."

The couple lie collapsed on the ground, the woman twitching from the pain of the shocking, Harold dear not yet fully conscious of his injuries. Amy, instead of springing to action, repeats, stretching out her hands towards the two on the ground, beseeching, "I didn't know!" The other people in the park, even the mothers using their cellphones while pushing buggies out for some fresh air, stop their actions to stare at the human barbeque.

Val stands up in one smooth motion and snatches away Amy's Radio. "This is Officer Konstantopilous. Yes, I know I'm retired, so stuff that line already. There has been an assault with a weapon in Phoenix Park. The assault victim has moderate to severe burn injuries. His attacker may have burns as well, but they do not appear to be sever. Officer Hopkins appears to be in shock and requires medical attention. Send me people NOW."

"Copy that," answers the radio. "Dispatching two cars. They will be there shortly."

Naomi looks from Amy to Val and then with a fierce frown moves to cover the injured party that is less burned but perhaps more volatile. "Calm down and stay still, there's help coming." A twitch of irritation runs through the military woman, a flush of red-cheeked frustration that hints at rage.

The scene attracts attention from everyone in the park, and within seconds, pictures and video are up on Youtube, Twitter, and half a dozen social media. The wife moans as her body spasms, her arms and legs too uncoordinated for action, "You're a jerk, Harold". Harold opens his eyes and stares at the sky, mumbling in a weak voice, "You see what I have to put up with?"

Val huffs out a sigh, then offers Amy a hand. "Come on Amy, you did exactly what your training said you should do. Come here'n take a seat, alright?" The small woman says soothingly and does what she can to keep all those involved quiet and comfortable, before various squad cars and an ambulance arrives on the scene. Val hangs around just long enough to promise to go by the station and give a statement later, before letting the professionals do their job and attempting to leave the park. With Naomi in tow, if possible.

Naomi did her best to back out of the spotlight when things got the most attentive, and when Val is ready to leave, she all too readily seems want to join her.
