can't you see that we'll collide?

Today I watched a video preview for a new feature of photoshop CS5 ( which, wow; I remember still using version seven not all that long ago ); it was a sneak peek at the new Content Aware tool in photoshop and... I'm definitely of two minds about this. Before I get into it, I will say that I actually wrote this before I realised that the capacity ( Read more... )

Thanks for sharing this, Cai. I find this topic really really interesting...just last night I was doing a watercolor and I looked at it, and thought..."When I scan that into the computer I can fix the contrast, and that will totally fix the mood I'm going for (without me spending a few more hours messing with the layers by hand, with actual paint)........- nonono, I'll do it now. Bah. I'm not going to cheat."

Technology is the damned blessing and a course. A little help, like you described with the clone tool and color retouching is okay...but...people keep pushing the envelope and designing technology which does more and more of the work for us.

You can create computer-generated ceramic images, and some artists accept that as ceramic artwork! That's a whole other debate, but for an artform in which you must get your hands dirty I feel like it's a crime to design a vase on the computer, and never carry it out to material existence. Anyway, a little off topic.

So, how would you like to guest-write for my blog!? lol
http://yourmidnightsnack.wordpress.com/ (if you ignore some of the random posts my fiance has written, this post fits in perfectly with the kind of stuff we want to have on the blog)
Let me know! And no is an okay answer, I won't be totally heartbroken, just a little.

see, for me, that's a little different; retoning or adjusting scanned images doesn't feel like cheating, for me. If I finish a sketch in photoshop, it becomes mixed media, for me, and I'd list it as such, if I ever bothered to detail such things. Every photo I've ever printed ( or internet!published ) has been digitally finished, at least in some way or another, but I have never, never just had the computer do something for me ( also I apologise for that really shoddy sample of photos. I am too lazy to upload anything new ).

I've run into people modelling things digitally before and then have them manufactured using various methods of rapid prototyping, which I think is intriguing, but again, it's a league of its own, outside the world of physical sculpting. Anyway.

If you'd like to reblog this, sure! Mostly though, I'm not in much of a writing place at the moment, though if you wanted to... idk, give me a question, or something, I can probably do... that. I'm just... yeah. Really bad at the writing these days.

I really love your photography, Cai. And you're fine at writing. That blog of ours is kind of on the backburner...but it gets a shit ton of views (since November of 2008, over 982 every month) every single day because of something I posted about two years ago, so I feel bad just letting it sit there without occasional new content. If I can think of a topic or a question I'll bug you, but you've got no obligation, do what makes you happy.

However, if you are interested, I would love to pimp you out on our featured artists page, which I have neglected to start, but could. :D
