You know what was the best part of Brendan Fraser's appearances on Scrubs was? How freaking attractive he looked. Oh Brendan. Now you're immortalized as a hilarious clapping!fail gif.

Yesterday ignited swung by my apartment and I made her finish out her Farscape viewing with The Peacekeeper Wars. Tissues were needed, yes I fully admit I too partook of ( Read more... )

I really do like The Wire, but it's SOOOO impressed with its own Kwality that it can get airless. And I think the seasons are fairly independent (although an unexpected character later has a Redemption Arc...) because most of the *human* characters don't develop much, whereas lots happens in the multi-season Crucifixion of Charm City arc.

Thanks, that actually helps quite a bit. It's definitely last-mentioned because I don't think I need to see it omg right now but I did want to give it shot if only because how highly regarded it was. Perhaps it does better if I watch an episode every day? Some shows suffer under strenuous marathoning.

I would say that The Wire marathons really well within seasons, but it's OK to take time between seasons. In fact, it's a good show to watch over a short span of time, because it led me to create the category of Twitter Show: it really crowds the 144 Character limit.

The Doctor Who two-parter eps for 11 are: 4 and 5 (The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone), 8 and 9 (The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood), and 12 and 13 (The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang.) I can upload them all on MU for you if you don't have access elsewhere. I don't know if membership at the dw download comm is open or not.

Thank you! I don't need the downloads, so don't worry about that.

Alright so here's my timeline of how I watched the wire: Season 1 took a month, and then seasons 2-5 took like two weeks total. Although I didn't watch the final episode for a couple weeks, but that's just me being weird and not wanting to finish the series.
From what I can tell, this is pretty typical: a slow start followed by a race to finish all the episodes. Although, each season is a fairly complete story arc, so you can take time off between seasons... if you want. I most definitely did not want.

Oh awesome. That's really helpful. If I get hooked, I can watch a show in a ridiculous amount of time; I finished off the entire first season of Veronica Mars in a day.

The Wire can be really hard to watch, but I don't necessarily agree with executrix on the reasons why. The problem is that it doesn't pull any punches. In any other difficult situation you usually have the ONE CHARACTER who is the saving grace, but everybody is flawed, everybody does awful things, it's just by degrees. And the worst bit is that you know that no part of it is exaggerated. You have to sit there when you turn it off and ruminate on the fact that somewhere this is happening, somewhere this has happened.

As for Band of Brothers, I have tried to come up with reasons to watch this, but I guess, if you just aren't interested, I don't know how I can convince you.

I loved the recent season of Dr. Who. So much fun and his current companion is a delight.

May I also recommend Treme? It's by the same people who did The Wire, but only one season has aired so far. More character based than The Wire, plus since it takes place in New orleans after Katrina each show is drenched in amazing music.
