Festival Action log thing?

[It was true that Princesses didn't do well in blending in crowds, even when they lived as a commoner for a long time. It had been a short period of time since her treatment of Ser Snake, but still, she did not bring her hair back to its normal style of side-braids and long hair flowing down...rather, she kept it down and loose, flowing past her ( Read more... )

[A foreign-looking man in a robe has been wandering about the capital, enjoying the festival and getting more used to Eigisengoku's culture. Seeing as how Ovelia looks friendly, he comes over to her]

Excuse me. Could you direct me to one of the gardens? Many of those I wished to see were incinerated during the attack.

The Gardens?

[Ovelia had intended on going back to the Caravan...but this man did seem friendly, though due to her situation from earlier...she smiled, but she kept on her guard on the inside, not so relaxed if there would be an attack.]

Certainly. I had wandered through a few of them myself before. I would be delighted to escort you.

I am grateful for your assistance. [He bows his head formally, smiling a little] I am Teal'c.

Teal'c...I do remember hearing that name from somewhere.

[Ovelia then smiles, as if remembering something!]

Yes! From the Tengu Journals.

I am Ovelia, Ovelia Oaks.

[Eyebrow.] Indeed? Then it is fortunate that we are able to meet in person. I enjoyed speaking with you previously, Ovelia Oaks.

[Ovelia nods.]

And I as well, Ser Teal'c. Since our last conversation, I...

...

[Her eyes cloud a bit.]

Had given much thought to what you had told me.

You have thought more about the relationship between peace and justice. [Starts walking towards the garden]

I have done the same.

[Ovelia walks beside him.]

Did...you find any insight in those thoughts?

No. Only a great irony, in how force can so often only be met with force.

[They pass many ruined buildings.]

The armies that did this passed through Hyrule's lands on their way to this city. They traveled on the river, and I watched their armada from the shore. We all knew that although they meant no harm to us, they intended a great evil to others. Yet we could do nothing. Hyrule is not strong enough to have won such a battle, and we were not their target.

However, had we the power, and were the decision to rest in my hands, I would have ordered the destruction of Enma's alliance without a moment's hesitation.

[Ovelia looks at the buildings, and her expression seems to become more somber.]

So much destruction...and for what? Power?

...No. If they simply wanted power, they would not...I do not think they would do something so...

[She lets out a soft sigh. Anger is heard in her voice.]

I...I do not condone violence. But...I...

If...If I had the power to prevent this, I would...I would act on it.

[Teal'c appears to be doing his best to out-somber her.] And you would be right to do so.

[He walks in silence for a few moments, brooding]

I believe that to seek power for the sake of accomplishing some act of good is not a bad thing, while to seek power for the sake of harming others or simply to possess power is wrong. Yet as you say, what happened here was not about power. There are even darker motives than greed. There is cruelty. I know too much of both.

regal_innocence October 15 2009, 00:20:44 UTC
Yes, but...

[She paused a moment, thinking.]

To achieve power even for good, would the power not consume you, if you sought too hard? I knew...of a place where two factions had truly thought that their side was good, and just. They sought the power because they wished for peace, and would fight for it. There was side of 'evil', no black and white that many aspects of this war seem to carry within.

...But in the end, all they did was kill each other, and only one was left to tell the tale, and she too disappeared shortly after.

...

Though with this, it may go even further than cruelty. Though Enma is now fallen, those similar to them yet remain, only to harm and kill more people...

In war, it is the innocents, those who do not fight, who suffer the most from it.

[More pondering]

There is much wisdom in your words, Ovelia Oaks.

...If it is wisdom, then...

It is wisdom learned much too late.

[She clenches her fist, lowering her eyes.]

Why is it...that during times such as these, so few seem to think of the innocents being caught in the crossfire? Do they truly not care of them? Of the pain that they feel?

There are many who ignore the lives of those who suffer in war. There are many others who think extensively of innocent lives and fight for them, either in order to save them or so that they may control them utterly.

However, from what I have known of battle, most warriors think of nothing except their own duty, and their own survival. In the heat of combat, all thoughts other than obedience and living to see another day can fall away. This is especially the case if a soldier has been conditioned to serve his master without question or hesitation. Then, even survival can be forgotten, and only servitude remains.

[Teal'c's face is grim]

It is a terrible condition to allow oneself to be subjected to. One which allows little room for honor or dignity. Or conscience.

When one serves a lord, all they can think of is that lord. Instead of realizing that they are doing naught but atrocity in their name, they press forward...razing the earth and believing that what they are doing is Right and Just...if only because it is in the name of He or She who he serves.

[Oh gee, she knows this problem a little too well. Stupid Civil Wars.]

It is wrong. I cannot accept that the whims of one man or woman are more important than the People. Are they not the reason people rule? For their sake?
