Rika's wikia article Minagoroshi-hen [ Personality ] :
Rika Furude has two completely different sides to her. One side is sweet and adorable, the other dark and cynical.
The personality Rika shows to most people is that of a sweet little girl. She is always there to comfort those who need it, she’s polite, and almost always has a smile on her face. Rika also uses words such as “Nipaa” and “Mii” when she speaks, and will often compare the people in different situations to cats as she says “meow”. All of these things make people fall in love with Rika instantly. Rika may act like a child, but that does not mean she carries no responsibilities. She is the head of the Furude family, which also means that she is the shrine maiden for Oyashiro, the deity that guards the village. Rika is not only responsible for representing her family, but also Oyashiro.
Intelligence is another quality that everyone notices about Rika. She may not be loud spoken, but everyone is willing to listen to what she has to say due to the importance of all of her words and the quality of any advice she may give. Due to her intelligence, Rika is also very mischievous and knows how to get what she wants. When Rika is about to lose a game during a club activity, she will act upset and cute, distracting anyone who may win, giving her a chance to win the game herself. As a result of this, Rika is often compared to a tanuki, a very sly fox-like animal. Rika may have an air of innocence about her due to her cute personality, but she is not innocent enough to refrain from any perverted jokes or comments she may make.
As innocent as Rika seems, she often hides the truth from those around her so as not to frighten her friends, and for fear that no one will believe her. Due to the continuous time loops, Rika’s mind has matured while her body has not. However, she does not often present this side of herself because she does not want to worry other people. She will be her true self when the situation warrants it though.
On the inside, Rika is a cynic. After many years of being surrounded by death and chaos, Rika has lost her positive outlook on life and she feels as if many things will end negatively. Rika almost never shows this side to her friends, as she fears that it will only serve to frighten them since she has never acted like that before, and that she should be acting like a child. The only person Rika feels comfortable being her true self around is Hanyuu. However, Rika will show that side to others when she is being completely serious.
She is much more mature and serious, dropping the cute phrases she normally uses and rarely smiling. This side of Rika is also sly, but she is much more open about it and crueler in her intentions. She will often drink alcohol and eat spicy foods when she is upset with Hanyuu just to fluster her, taking advantage of the fact that their senses are connected and that Hanyuu hates the taste of both.
Rika’s true self is also much more outspoken than the side she presents to other people. She is also no longer polite, and will not hesitate to be cruel to others. She also believes that no matter which Hinamizawa she ends up in, it is a dead end. Rika will wait for her death, being bored by everything that happens, since she has been through all of it many times before, with the exception of the club meetings, which always end differently. However, things began to change when Rika came across a world where her friends seemed to remember the past dead-end worlds.
Due to this, her friends were able to avoid their mistakes and they became set upon fixing things before they ended badly. Rika finally began to have hope-something she hadn’t had in many years. She began to believe that her fate could be defeated. However, in the end, that world ended up being only a dead-end.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:
Rika is very physically strong. She’s gained a lot of strength by doing the cotton tearing performance during the Watanagashi festival, which requires a very heavy traditional hoe.
She is very intelligent, mostly due to the fact that she has lived for over one hundred years. Rika knows just what to say to others, and how to get out of tight situations. When asked by the detective Ooishi why she was seen in the forest after her performance after the festival when she was really telling Tomitake about his death later that night, Rika was able to think of a lie on the spot to help disregard the whole situation.
Also, Rika is very emotionally strong. All of the trials she has been through in her life have built her to be tough, but this strength can also make her a bit callous. She is also willing to risk her life for her friends, as seen when Satoko is almost caught by Takano’s men-Rika stands in front of Satoko to protect her, and subsequently ruin her chances of having a successful world. She would not let Satoko be harmed. Luckily, her friends managed to jump in at the right moment. This shows that Rika values her friends’ lives above her own, even if she has seen them die time and time again.
Weaknesses:
Rika is a tiny person, probably not even over five feet tall. This makes it difficult for Rika to effectively defend herself, even though she is fairly strong.
Rika’s cynicism is her biggest weakness; it is what brings her down, what causes her to have no motivation to live whatsoever. She’s lost all hope of finally beating her dismal fate, and she believes it will never be conquered. Although she has overcome a big part of that obstacle, Rika still has a cynical outlook on life due to all of the death she has been surrounded by for a hundred years. She may be overcoming it but it is still a weakness for her because it can cause her to have a lack of motivation for accomplishing tasks that look as if they may not be easily accomplished. This cynicism causes her to have difficulty opening up to others. Rika has many secrets, and she hides them very well. For a long time, she was unwilling to tell her friends what was really going on, as she thought they would not believe her due to her cynicism.
Rika also doesn’t like to accept help from others, especially if there’s a possibility of harm coming to the person helping her. She likes to do things on her own, and without telling others what she is going to do. In Meakashi and Watanagashi-hen, Rika tries to stabilize Shion with a vaccine for Hinamizawa Syndrome, which ends up with Rika’s death.

When Rika woke up, the first thing she noticed was that she was soaked. She didn’t think much of it, though, since she had found herself in the creek a time or two when Hanyuu had restarted time. When Rika finally opened her eyes, though, she noticed that she wasn’t in a creek. She wasn’t even in Hinamizawa. It felt as if she was going to go into a panic. Had something gone wrong? Had Hanyuu made a mistake?
Rika shook her head. Hanyuu had never made a mistake before, why would she now? Rika lifted her head up off the ground, her body too tired to be able to do much else. She looked around, trying to find the spirit she had been around her whole life. “Hanyuu. Where are we?” When she received no answer, Rika couldn’t help but become even more worried. Not only was she not in Hinamizawa, but it looked as if Hanyuu wasn’t here either. Rika was completely alone.
This realization renewed not only her panic, but she felt a rush of adrenaline and she was finally able to stand. When she stood, Rika noticed a strange mark on her shoulder. It definitely hadn’t been there before. She narrowed her eyes as she looked at the mark.
Wherever she was, someone had brought her here. Hanyuu didn’t make a mistake, and her time in Hinamizawa had not run out. Someone took her from her world and brought her here to serve a purpose, and Rika was determined to find out what that was so she could go home as quickly as possible.
When she began to take a step forward, her foot hit something. Rika looked down and noticed a strange device by her foot that looked a lot like a starfish. She picked it up, examining it. After a few minutes, Rika was able to conclude that it was some sort of communicator. She might as well make a broadcast. Someone may tell her what she needs to know.
