Well, it's been quite some time since I finally updated this thing. I have some good news, and some bad news. Mostly good I think, but one big bad.
First off, the good: I got a promotion at work. Finally, after two years of toiling in the bowels of Tech Support, I have managed to release my head shackle. I am now a full time systems administrator for the ISP I work at. (Rivercity Internet Group. The company I work for in that group is called Hostirian.) My official title is 'Special Projects Manager'. Nifty, no? So far, I quite enjoy it. My first project was learning the Asterisk PBX system, which I have done to a reasonable amount, I think. also, I am the main point of contact for all Windows based servers and desktops for one of our 'customers': CDM fantasy Sports. My next project will be taking over the paylinx credit card gateway for our intranet system. Apparently, when they decide to use me, the do it full force. I have also moved into my own 'office' like thing. (It's technically a cubicle, but it's a cubicle by itself, with walls almost to the ceiling, and a hallway to get to it, so it's more of an artificial office than a cubicle.)
Actually, I guess my first project was actually the upgrade for CDM's Domain. They were running off a Win2k domain, and the DCs were all Dell Optiplex desktops with a 800Mhz CPU, and 128Mb of RAM, running Win2k Advanced Server. Got them moved over to some better hardware, and running legit copies of Windows 2003 Standard, fully up to date. I did such a good job on that it seems, that that is what got me promoted in the first place. :D.
Unfortunately, I won't get a raise until June, which will make for tight times until then.
The bad News:
Annastasia, my '03 Pontiac Vibe GT, was been in an accident. Late sunday night/early monday morning, whilst on the way home from a friends house, a deer, which was on the opposite side of the road from the one I was on, decided it needed to run away from me. (At this time, I was the only person on the road, and it was a 2 lane 2 direction road.) It seemed to believe that the best way to get away from me was by, instead of turning around and dashing into the woods, to dash across the road. This resulted in said deer running in front of/into my car. The memory I have during this time is actually vaguely amusing, as I remember seeing the deer tumbling head over ass, spinning around, back across the road where it came from, and into the trees. That being said, I am still upset about this, and the deer is lucky I decided to not stop, because had it been still alive when I stopped to check on it, it would not have stayed so.
Fortunately, I was not traveling particularly fast as I am wont to do on those roads, as my tires are in poor shape, and I was taking it easy. Also, the deer was a fairly small deer, so the damage is not as extensive as it could have been. I feel confident that the car will not be totaled, but I am afraid that the repair cost will be heavy. So far, the damage I have compiled is as follows:
Driver side front fender: mangled, and totaled, will need complete replacement.
Driver side headlight: mount points all broken, and reflector shattered, will need replacement.
Front bumper: cracked, and mounts popped out of mount holes, will need replacement.
Hood: bent under itself near the driver side fender where the deer hit, will need replacement.
Front fascia mount bar: bent from impact with deer, will probably need to be bent back, or replaced.
Alignment: obviously off from impact, hopefully fixable, and will not cause abnormal wear on the tires after realignment is done.
Suffice it to say, I am still depressed over this particular incident, as I particularly love my car, and I hope to get it back in as good, or better condition than it was BEFORE this mishap. I will update later on what my particular situation is with the car when I know more (assessment for damages to be covered by insurance will be held on Friday.)
