TM Challenge 152: Road trip

Nov 18, 2006 19:45

"I want to go to LA and go shopping," Phoebe announced on quiet Saturday morning.

"I can shimmer you there and pick you up when you're done," Cole said from the other side of the dining room table as he sipped his coffee.

Phoebe put her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her hands. "No, I want to do a road trip," she said, smiling.

"Road trip? Drive there?" Cole said. "But that takes hours."

"Exactly," Phoebe said. "It's a beautiful day, it's a beautiful trip, let's take our time, drive down and spend the night at some swanky hotel. We can spend Sunday there and come back on Monday."

"It's faster to shimmer," Cole grumbled.

Phoebe got up and circled around the table, pushing his chair out and settling in his lap, her arms wrapped around his neck. "But it's a normal thing to do," she said. "We can stop along the way, see a few sites. Please?" She batted her eyes and bent her head to kiss him.

"Cheater," he accused, kissing her back.

She smiled, fully aware of her triumph. "We can shimmer back," she said. "Do a one way car rental. I just want to do something completely, absolutely, totally normal."

"All right," he agreed. A few hours in a car with the woman he loved wasn't that much of a hardship. "But I'm not following you around to carry your bags when you shop."

"But that's the human thing to do, baby," she said impishly. "And don't you want to be more human?"

"Not that much," Cole said. "I have to draw the line somewhere."
