Challenge 139: Do you tend to make friends easily?
Do I make friends easily? In short, no. Not at all. Growing up in the Underworld makes you paranoid and untrusting, especially when you are a part-human half-breed. I learned almost immediately that the other boys in the Brotherhood were not my friends. Some made their hatred of me known right away. Others pretended to be the friends I so desperately wanted, only to betray me into traps where I was teased and beaten. Confidences were betrayed, secret fears exposed. I learned to trust no one.
The Brotherhood training drilled that into me even more so. The more power you had, the more demons who wanted to take it from you. Always watch your back. Don't believe a witch's tears; she was just trying to trick you into thinking she was helpless. Never trust a human to do what you wish, for the goodness of a soul could temper his actions when you least expect it.
Even now, I don't have many friends. I trust Phoebe with my life, of course. Prue never trusted me, but I respected her. Piper and Paige's feelings seem to change as easily as the weather. There are Leo and Darryl, but they don't truly trust me, and mutual trust is important for friendship.
Phoebe is my only true friend. But that doesn't mean I don't want more.
