this last weekend was completely awesome, but I've been (unfortunately) too busy to write about it until now.
fencing tournament. VA Tech. 6 people who don't really know each other that well outside of practice. 1 van. an 8-hour drive. 1 hotel room.
sounds like a recipe for disaster, but what it really is is a recipe for a fantastic time. I couldn't have picked a better group of people to travel with (from the fencing team, that is... hehe). Emily & I sat in the back & had a blast talking about all sorts of things. Liam kept us entertained while Patrick slept. Kiah navigated (and also entertained us... and put in music from my awesome CD collection, oh yeah), and Matt drove. I wish I could explain the people adequately to communicate how freaking crazy it all was. but man, we had a blast.
the whole weekend involved Emily & I doing everything together (b/c we were the only girls, and the tournaments were separted), me play-flirting outrageously with both Liam and Kiah (esp Liam), and the guys just being great & wonderfully entertaining. the men's tournament on Saturday was good times... even though we had to wake up early, it was okay b/c it was SNOWING!!!! Emily & I were supportive of the guys & watched many of their bouts (& took pictures), but we also decided that we definitely needed to go play in the snow. we made a snowman and snow angels! :D SO much fun. all in all, the guys did very well in the tournament. Kiah was the only one who made it past the first direct elimination, but it could've been b/c it was either him or Patrick (due to unfortunate circumstances, two of our male members had to fence a DE... bummer). actually... Kiah is really good anyway :P. in any case, it was good stuff. then we went out to eat & everyone else had amazing sandwiches, but I was bummed b/c they had put onions instead of portabello mushrooms on mine, and I hate onions on sandwiches (and I really wanted mushrooms!). oh, & we had a great snowball fight too :D. hehehe. and Emily & I had some great fun spotting possible hot guy fencers. we finally chose one in particular-- a saberist from William & Mary. unfortunately, he didn't return to watch the women's tournament. it was highly disappointing :(. ;)
the women's tournament was also good times... Emily did really well. I did okay for my first tournament. I won a bout! the guys were awesome & really supportive of us the whole time. I couldn't ask for a better group of people.
now we're all really excited about moving our club & our fencing to the next level. I definitely can't wait to go to more tournaments, and I look forward to practices to see some people I now feel particularly close to. (I was already close to Emily, of course, but I do see her elsewhere anyway)
I've decided that there's nothing that can actually sum up the greatness of this experience. I love my fencing people <3.
I'll stop now.
