Since this is the second incident I am aware of, I guess it's time to make a damn post about it. Just a warning this post isn't a particularly nice one.
MY ICONS ARE NOT RESOURCES OR BASES. YOU CANNOT USE ANY PART OF THEM IN YOUR SHITTY WORK AND CALL IT YOUR OWN. MY TEXT IS NOT FOR YOU TO USE AS A TEXT TEXTURE. MY BACKGROUNDS ARE NOT BASES FOR YOU TO SLAP YOUR OWN SUBJECT OVER. MY ICONS ARE NOT FOR YOU TO EDIT AND CALL YOUR OWN.
I do not know how I can possibly make that any fucking clearer.
Now on to the bit that isn't nice.
The first time this happened, deadama made this terrible icon and submitted it to the20rings which, as you can observe, is a contest community. You might remember the background from this icon I made in 2014 for a 20inspirations challenge where we had to use only our graphics program's resources. That background is NOT a texture. While it isn't a difficult background to create, by any stretch, I did create it myself in Photoshop. deadama thought it would be just swell to take that icon of mine and slap their own subject on top. So let me repeat: my icons are not bases you can slap your own subject on top of and call yours. Definitely not cool. The maker in question was dealt with quietly by the mods of the contest, but they never contact me personally or privately to apologize. The icon still, as far as I know, sits in their scrapbook because apparently they didn't feel the need to delete the record of their rip off ways. They would also attempt to con their way back into a challenge community I banned them from by trying to take advantage of the mod that was brought in to replace me once I stepped down. Very not cool behavior, rip off aside.
Which brings me to the current incident. Someone brought to my attention this thread at A-I which showcases this icon made by ennasky. It's been a long, long time so you may not recognize while the text looks so damn familiar, but it does because I made this icon in 2012. In case you have any doubts, here's an analysis someone did of exactly how you can tell that this user has decided it's okay to extract the text from my icon and slap into onto their shitty icon. My text is not a text texture. You cannot use it, in any shape or form, on your own icons. Do not edit my icons and use them for your own resources. I'm not saying my text is amazing or anything, but I did create it myself. I haven't used text textures in years and years, and I was never that fond of them to begin with. And I don't want my text being used as someone's text texture on their awful icons.
There were two other icons in the original post (this one andthis one). In the case of the first one, I believe they've done the same thing and extracted text from this icon made by me in 2014, and the second one was definitely inspired by this icon I made earlier this year.
I have tried TWICE to take care of this matter privately.
The first time I left this comment on their icon post. The post then disappeared (though whether it was actually deleted or just friend locked, I don't know), but the post then reappeared on this user's Tumblr here despite me asking for the icons in question to be deleted completely as they aren't her original work.
I then sent this message which is a little less polite, but to be perfectly honest, they were lucky they got polite me in the first comment so I rather think I restrained myself well.
Which brings me to 6.26 AM (Sydney, Australia) on the 19th of December 2015. The post is still up on Tumblr and the icons still exist in this LJ scrapbook. I have tried twice to take care of this in private, but this maker persists in being an inconsiderate shit head. So it was time to get publicly angry, I guess.
I have done my best over the years to be a positive force in the icon community. It is a hobby I enjoy immensely filled with a lot of people who I think are incredible and amazing.
But I am not being nice today. ennasky, you're kind of a shitty person. So here's your public call out post for being that shitty person. Enjoy.
I'll probably sticky this post for awhile because, honestly, it blows my mind that I even have to write it.
