You'll notice I didn't...

I am wealthy.
I take my fool's gold
And clutch it to my chest.
I am greedy.
I hoard my wealth
While people perish all around me.
I am a liar.
I say I'm starving
At the first trace of hunger.
I am insensitive
I care very little about you or your family,
As long as I am comfortable.
I am egocentric.
I will crush you
To satisfy my whims.
I am a hypocrite.
I will condemn you to hell,
But don't step on my toes.
I am a coward.
I will not save you from death
For you fear you might think I'm alive.
I am superfluous, indignant, and vain.
I am a crook, an adulterer, and a thief.
I am hiding the truth from a dying man.
I am an American Christian.

Title: I Am an American Christian, Author: Anonymous.

I purposely put the title of this poem at the end of the piece so that no one would make up their mind about before they read it. Some people will have a strong opinion about this, supporting the change of mind/heart it encourages. Others will have a strong opinion about it, taking the viewpoint that none of this matters. "Morals, values, are personal choices, everyone's are different." Yeah, sure, okay. Some will be indifferent and commit no word to thought. It doesn't matter. I am guilty of almost every single one of the above shames at some point or another. I consider them shameful. They are shameful, because that is not what a Christian is supposed to be. That is not what I am supposed to be.

I just want to put it out there, here and now, that I am sorry to any and each of you I have wronged. I have not been a good Christian in my past, I have not set any type of example and have left little room for me to witness to anyone. That is not who I am now.

I just want to put it out there.

God, forgive me.

And just a side note--Christianity does not mix. I wish people understood that. Every doctrine, from every denomination, Catholic to Charismatic, agrees that Christianity is based on the principle of One God, Jehovah, in three persons. Christianity is what it is. God is who He is. To claim Christianity and something else... well... it lines up with nothing in the Word of God. A man cannot serve darkness and light, because in light there is no darkness, and in darkness there is no light. There is no grey area with God, with Christianity.

But that's just a side note. Not a 'judgment', but an observation and declaration.

The End.
