Dear Chocolatier,

Jan 03, 2019 11:22

So, you're clearly awesome. Thank you for signing up to draw or write for me! In the spirit of this exchange, I'll try and keep this letter short and sweet (uh, for me, anyway). :)

Likes: heavy focus on female characters (and their relationships with each other), found families, expanded worldbuilding, caper fic, wackiness and shenanigans. Snarky dialogue and banter. Non-traditional languages/demonstrations of love/friendship. Some tropes (fake relationships!), smart trope subversions, and pastiches/playing with genre conventions/experimentation with form. Also, smut!

For art, I particularly love scenes that look like they’re in the middle of the action/an illustration from some kind of story. And cracky humor, parodies, poking fun, etc. I also tend to prefer sexily suggestive art to anything fully explicit. Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but: I love fanart so much. I'm primarily a fanartist, and I'm so glad that there are more art-inclusive exchanges around these days! All of these fandoms could use so, so much more visual fanwork than they have. If you're drawing, etc, please don't ever feel like that's a second choice option. <3

DNWs non-consensual sex (etc), character death, excessive (ie non-canon-typical) violence, A/B/O, soulmarks/mates. I also tend to be kind of picky about AUs and crossovers - it’s all about things “fitting” with canon in a satisfying, believable way, if that makes sense. (So every fandom ever getting reimagined at Hogwarts? Not really something I’m into. Etc.)

Fandom-specific prompts, in no particular order:

Rivers of London

Abigail Kamara & Thomas Nightingale
Abigail Kamara & Varvara Sidorovna Tamonina
Peter Grant & Abigail Kamara

Notice a trend here? I really adore Abigail, and I’d love to see her in the spotlight for a bit! I’m thinking practical magic lessons, getting up to mischief, solving an important mystery to the bemusement of her adult mentors/companions, exploring/expanding on some aspect of the worldbuilding, etc. I’m happy with any combination of the companion characters listed, and others can totally come too - I love the Rivers of London cast as a whole, and I love the wry humor, snark, and occasional earnestness of the series. Also the found family/team elements. Have fun, and I totally will too, yay.

I don’t really have separate prompts for fic and art here … similar elements appreciated in both. I desperately want more fanart for this series in general, and am especially excited to see visual designs for the characters. Also, great opportunities for slapstick ...

Marvel Comics

Kitty Pryde/Rachel Summers

One of my oldest, most ironclad OTPs! I love their entire, complicated history--the importance of future "Kate" to Rachel's past, blended with her friendship with 616 Kitty (almost immediately her closest and most trusted ally in the confusing "new" world)--but I do have a particular attachment to the Excalibur era, complete with a more confident Rachel, zany adventures and the two of them being Lighthouse roommates.

So maybe wacky Excalibur-style hijinks? Cross-Time Capers absolutely encouraged! But if you’re less into/familiar with that era, maybe something at the Jean Grey Academy, two teachers trying to hide their relationship from a school full of obnoxious superpowered teens? Or something from the future, with Rachel working on one of Kitty’s political campaigns in Chicago?

Art-specific prompts: Same again, really: wacky hijinks, clandestine teacher makeouts, clandestine candidate/political campaign manager makeouts? Alan Davis’s curly-haired, young-Katharine-Hepburn-inspired Kitty is definitely ’my’ Kitty, but feel free to ditch Ray’s mullet if you’re playing with that era. ;)

Destiny/Mystique

For these two, I think I’d most enjoy reading or seeing something set during their early days - early 20th century capers and romance, probably somewhere in Europe? Young and falling in love and feeling as though they can change the world? Or if that’s not as much your thing, something set during Rogue’s childhood, balancing family time with … other pursuits? But preferably nothing too intensely angsty.

Art of the two of them on a date in early-20th-century Austria or thereabouts would be delightful. Or really, in any of the eras they lived through together. But again, something happy, please!

Labyrinth

Jareth & Sarah Williams

Oh, nostalgia. Labyrinth was the second fandom I ever participated in, when I was a wee bitty 15-year-old. And while David Bowie in glitter and tights was always one of the major attractions of the film, I was always all about it being Sarah’s story, so.

I’d really love post-canon fic or art. Something with Sarah returning to the Labyrinth on her own terms, a bit older and more confident - or maybe she winds up there against her will initially, but makes the most of it (whether she ultimately stays or goes).

As for Jareth, whether he’s somehow from/part of her own psyche, an adversary, a mercurial eventual ally, or a love interest (I’m not against this! Provided Sarah is of age and has agency) … I just don’t think he’s likely to be especially easy, if that makes sense. Petulance, cultural differences, you name it.

For art, I do love all kinds of fairy tale illustration, so playing with that sort of thing could be awfully fun. Also designs for Goblin Queen Sarah, various flavors of quarreling/conflict/tension between Sarah and Jareth … and if you like drawing weird Henson/Froud goblins and other flora and fauna, that’s always fun!

Leverage

Alec Hardison/Parker/Eliot Spencer

This show, and this OT3, are my happy place. They’re my fandom comfort food. I love them to pieces and want only good things for them. Caper fic is great, as is … domestic fic that brings something caper-esque into it, because they’re all rather ridiculous. Eliot cooking is always a hit, too. Something post-canon, where they’re settling into their new leadership roles, or something set during the series, could be great … I was always pretty fond of their gastro-pub days.

There is a tragic lack of fanart in this fandom! I have a soft spot for goofyness and long-suffering Eliot, so something silly along those lines could be fun, but I’d also give my eyeteeth for a picture of an OT3 cuddle puddle. Or the three of them costumed up for some specific con!

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries

Phryne Fisher & Dorothy Williams
Elizabeth MacMillan & Dorothy Williams

I love the way Dot grows and becomes more confident and outspoken over the course of the series. A story where she saves the day or solves the puzzle, with focus on her friendship with Phryne, Mac, or both, would be a delight. The strong friendships and alliances between women are my favorite part of this show, and the family dynamic too - Jane is certainly welcome as well. (Please feel free to go light on the Hugh. I’m afraid I’m not the biggest fan.)

A cozy domestic/familial scene would be nice for art! I also find the notion of Mac teasingly flirting with a blushing Dot rather appealing. Or really, whatever you fancy ...

Phryne Fisher & Elizabeth MacMillan
Phryne Fisher/Elizabeth MacMillan

I love the comfortable familiarity between these two, and the shared dry humor. I can really never have enough of the pair of them upsetting social occasions and showing up the men (and being fabulously dapper and femme, respectively, while doing it). I’d love to see them cracking a case, embroiled in society politics, or whatever you’d like. And some sort of pre-series romance (which could grow into the strong mutual respect and friendship of canon) would be lovely, or maybe fake-relationship caperfic?

For art, the two of them being generally gorgeous together, whether in a posh drawing room or in the midst of some sort of criminal chaos, would be splendid. I’m a sucker for the gorgeous costuming on the show.

Have fun and don't stress, please! <3
