do you know what I really need?

I got my yuletide assignment! And, it's a doozy. As it should be. ;) I shall be quite challenged this year, though I hope I'll be able to pinch-hit as well.

I'm about to make two separate yuletide-related posts. Please bear with me, non-participants.

Dear Santa,

First thing first: thank you so much, Santa, for being my Yuletide writer this year! I don’t know who you are yet, but I do know one thing about you, beyond a doubt. You are clearly awesome. After all, you offered to write one of my relatively teeny little fandoms . . . this means you totally win. And, I've asked for some things that are very close to my heart this year.

I realize that I gave you pretty lengthy prompts. Please don’t be alarmed: I’m a very wordy person (as you'll notice), and I’m also the sort of person who loves getting detailed prompts from my own recipients. (The more material to work with the better, for me.) Please don’t feel restricted to following my ideas--they are absolutely only suggestions!

In the same vein, this is going to be a rather long letter. At the end, I’m even going to provide extra information about all four of my fandoms. Feel free not to read those, or to skim. I provide this information not because I expect you to use it, but in case you would like to. Please don't try and force yourself to stick to my specifications! I'd much rather you write a story that you feel good about, and enjoy writing.

When it comes to general fic preferences, mine are fairly simple. The most important thing, to me, is characterization . . . when the characters I love are fully present and believeable, I am a very happy and satisfied reader. (This, for me, includes not adding too much backgound information out of left field-fleshing out a background is fine, but it’s best when built out of what is already there.)

I also have some particular elements that I tend to enjoy . . . in ‘ship fic, for instance, I’m particularly fond of “first times.” Most of my favorite pairings are not canon (though there were some exceptions amongst my requests this year!), and I always like to read about how they could become so. I am, obviously, a slasher, with a particular soft spot for femslash (being a queer woman myself) . . . but I absolutely enjoy gen as well, if you’re not so much into that. (Although, two of my requests this time do feature a canonical gay or lesbian couple, respectively. You don’t have to focus on romance/sex, though, to be sure.) I’m fond of smut, but enjoy all ratings. I’d probably prefer an upbeat fic, or at least a bittersweet fic with an “up” ending, bug that’s not an absolute.

There are a few things I really don’t like, and would prefer you didn’t use. Character death is something I prefer to avoid. I dislike incest, most noncon (though some dubious consent is fine, when it turns out well), and most hard kink.

If you’d like, you’re certainly welcome to poke around my website and journal (though both are a bit sparse). Or you’re welcome to ignore most of this and just write as your inspiration takes you. I will love whatever you do!

Thank you so much for being my santa this year! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. I already know that I will love it (however much or little of this babble you choose to heed, I promise).

<3 like whoa,
Lilith

Here is some optional extra information about my four fandoms, with some resource links. By the way, I have no preference amongst the four of them; they’re all rather beloved.

Beware: I’m going to ramble, and I can talk endlessly about things I love! (Seriously, if you combine all four posts, I blather on for at least five pages here. Again, please feel free to skip or skim! This is extra info provided for your use, only if you want it!)

My thoughts on comics, let me show you them:
Desert Peach
Excalibur (1998 comic)
From Eroica With Love
Strangers in Paradise

Yay! So excited! I can't wait to get started on my assignment!

yuletide, yuletide07
