Total Vanity Post, Sorry, But Please Help Me. . .

I'm trying to decide if I should change my hairstyle. Yeah, most boring and self-serving post of all time, but figured this was the best way to ask friend advice and get responses in one convenient place from friends I trust and not from some of my superficial friends on FB who would just go, oh yeah, so cute!, but maybe not mean it and not give me real advice. So stick with me.

I've been bored with my hair for a while; just normally throw it up in a bun or do simple blow-dry. Am starting to feel like my hair makes me look like a cat lady who's given up, or a stay-at-home-mom minus kids. Boring but effective.

But I saw Adele on SNL on Saturday, and absolutely love her hairstyle. Like, a LOT.

What do you guys think, should I get Adele-type bangs? I have really thick hair, excellent for thick bangs, but it is really fine and fly-away, bad. And means I'd have to actually do stuff with it, probably, though could always just side-sweep it I suppose. The haircut is pretty classic and matches the style of clothes I wear, thank goodness; maybe is also why I am attracted to it. I noticed though that in the photos she is also wearing great makeup; would I have to do all that too all the time? There are going to be days I just need to throw on clothes on and go; if I got bangs could I still do that?

I think part of my reticence in getting bangs is the fact that haven't had thick bangs since I was a kid, and any form of bangs since an early teen, so can't honestly remember how much work they are and associate them with my younger, much more awkward self. Also, I always assumed that for me, being of a larger size, getting bangs would make me look frumpy and highlight my bigness, as well as not look very professional. But Adele is absolutely stunning with them. And I think we have a similar face shape, so hopefully mine would turn out the same way.

Any advice, suggestions, etc? Can I get away with thick bangs or should I try thinner ones? Longer or shorter? What would I need to specifically ask for? Should I have it softly taper on the sides to the rest of my hair length or be a more severe cut? Also, and this is more for Elicia, can I go to the lady we normally go to or should I go to a real salon? Want to look good but not pay much for it, as per like always. You are probably laughing at me, Leeshee, as have suggested in the past I should try bangs again and I blew you off. But finally found ones I like, and that makes all the difference.

Other bangs I like, from some of my fave ladies (click on the pics to blow them up):

As always, thanks for being awesome friends and putting up with stuff like this from me!

advice please, adele, bangs, personal, anna friel, jennifer morrison, alison sudol, sorry for boring you
