So, I took Friday off so that I could go to H&R Block to get my taxes done and so that we could get an early start for Peoria. H&R Block was inside of Jon's work, the Sears corporate building, so afterwards, we got to have lunch together. After that, we headed home, backed our bags and headed out to Peoria. It was a GORGEOUS day! Complete with sunshine, birds and a perfect temperature. It was nice to see that Spring has finally started to approach. We got out to Peoria around 5 and Amy and I had a glass of wine on the porch while the guys cracked open a few cold beers. Amy was nice enough to make us some lasagna and garlic bread and we spent the rest of the night just hanging out, talking and playing Wii.
The next morning, Amy made some awesome scrambled eggs filled with veggies and then we had to take her cat, Mira, to the Emergency Vet because something was wrong with her feet. After the vet, Amy and I headed out to do fun stuff. We first stopped at Friar tucks and got to sample some wine, Bell's pale ale and a delicious butterscotch liquor. After that, we headed to downtown Peoria heights. We stopped inside of a bead shop, went to a hippie store and got Jon a little xylophone made in guatamala who's profit went to saving the trees, over to an upscale wine shop and finally to a little bookstore which served wine. It was a really nice day, despite getting drenched by the rain that swept in while we were out there :) While we were out having a girls day, the guy had gone for a long walk on a forest trail and took some nice pictures, check
Jon's website out to see his pictures. After getting back to the house, we sat around and recapped the day and then went out for dinner to get some glorious sushi at a place called Sushigawa. It was Chris & Amy's favorite sushi restaurant in the area, and I can see why! The place was delicious! We got plenty of Sushi and had a ton left over, so, we took it with us while we went out on the town, just in case we got hungry later.
After dinner, we first went to Kelleher's Irish bar in downtown Peoria. I was very impressed by their selection of beer, it was awesome! I got to try the Mothership Wit beer by New Belgium and the Kell's Irish Lager that came with an awesome Rogue irish glass. After hanging out for awhile, we decided to go next door to the Rhodell Brewery. They had an awesome Blackberry beer that I thoroughly enjoyed and we had fun looking at all of the custom beer labels that local patrons had created for their 10 year anniversary. Afterwards, we went back home and played a little bit of Smartypants on Wii.
The next morning, after a delicious pancake breakfast, we headed home. We got home around 3:30, unpacked, cleaned up and spent the rest of the day just relaxing. It felt great. We had a great trip visiting Chris & Amy and it was nice to spend some quality time with them. Hope everyone else had a great weekend!
