Overdue update...

"It happens sometimes.  Friends come in and out of our lives like busboys in a restaurant."

I know it's been a while since I updated.  I've had a bunch of stuff going on at school and haven't really had time to write anything coherent.  So, here it goes.

School has been keeping me busy.  Beyond the general reading assignments I've tried some different things out.  I participated in a negotiation competition at school and paired with another person not in my section I had never met.  We didn't know what to expect and just went in trying to figure out what we were supposed to do.  Although we didn't make it past the initial cut where half the teams were cut, neither did either of the teams we were paired against in the previous round.  We learned a lot and had some fun.  My partner is looking forward to the next competition and has already voiced her opinion that we made a good team and should join up for the next competition.

My quick television re-cap: Prison Break is on hiatus until after baseball but I'm sad about the loss of Tweener.  Also, Linc is an idiot if he doesn't think LJ's release is a trap.  Heroes is a fantastic show.  Well, a good show but it's got some great characters.  Hiro is absolutely amazing and his friend provide comic entertainment.  Greg Grunberg is wonderful as always and I'm glad that his character has a great balance.  I'm enjoying the humor of Studio 60, especially when it mocks the trademarks of its creators.  The pedeconferencing known on The West Wing is a constance source of humor and I'm glad that so many of these actors got these jobs.  I've been a fan of Sarah Paulson's for a while and her appearance in Serenity earned her extra points from me.  And of course, I'm a huge fan of Bradley Whitford and I'm starting to see some distinctions between Danny and Josh Lyman so, we'll see.  Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars are back in full force and I'm impressed at the stability from Gilmore Girls.  I've always enjoyed Veronica's writing and I'm looking forward to seeing the new format in full action.  I haven't been as impressed with Lost but I think we're seeing some interesting developments.  I started watching Kidnapped and now that they moved it and it's only got a few more episodes I'll probably continue although it's gone.  I wanted to watch Smith but it's already been pulled and I could never remember when it was supposed to be on.  Ugly Betty is adorable and America Ferrara is fantastic.  Grey's is doing fairly well and Six Degrees looks to be tiring.  Men in Trees is hysterical - and I don't even like Anne Heche.  Desperate Housewives is starting to return to its first season campiness but we'll see if it holds up.  Sisters & Brothers is pretty entertaining and I'm glad Greg Berlanti has joined up because he can help with the balancing act Ken Olin started.  As a final note, Battlestar Galactica is back! It's frakkin' back! And it's awesome! Although Starbuck is a little crazy, the Chief is apparently too stupid to figure out Gaeta is his secret source, and Anders has magically healed, Adama continues to make me feel inspired to do something about saving humanity although I'm not entirely sure what.  So, that's my current tv situation.

Um, now comes the part where I start talking about the people I'm around.  So, you may or may not want to continue reading.  Your choice...

I'm in class with pretty much the same people all the time.  So, you can imagine how it is easy to get frustrated with others.

The class gunner, "helium hands", is starting to cut down on participation.  Although when he does I tend to shudder because his questions don't make much sense.  I left him an anonymous list of gunner behavior and he appears to understand...at least a little.  I dubbed one member of the class Giggles because she has a tendency to giggle at the Professor's jokes...the bad ones.  And then feels the need to make unnecessary comments and no one in the class is amused.  Now generally it's just you annoying other people but there's a problem in a professional school.  As we have been warned since day one (and not just by people who have it in their best interests to scare us, but by upper level students) that our classmates are the ones that can make or break us.  These are the people who are going to be our references for jobs and so everything from the classroom translates to the workplace.  So, it's in everyone's best interests to keep their classmates on their good side.  It's also why you're encouraged not to be a gunner.  Then there's a girl in our class who rarely shows up.  Maybe she's a genius or something but she misses class a lot and then always has an excuse for her lack of participation when she does show up.  I understand that she's got some stuff going on but this is where you make a choice.  You can defer or withdraw for the semester because this semester's grades are what matter.  It's just time to realize the importance of what's going on.  Also, there's a girl who seems to keep applying her undergrad tactics and it's just annoying.  I don't think she understands that this is a professional training school and you don't get to pull the same crap.  Oh well...maybe it's just me getting annoyed with people.
