Why do politics invade everything...

"Read less. More TV."

So, the Emmy nominations were announced earlier in the week. And this was supposed to be the year that smaller shows had a better chance at nominations, due to the revised process. Instead, they may have screwed it up even more. Shall we go category by category?

Outstanding Comedy Series: Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, Scrubs, Two and a Half Men
Well, they kinda got it right. Arrested Development was one of the best shows on television and Scrubs and The Office are fairly consistently hilarious. I'm glad that Scrubs got the nomination because it does tend to be overlooked. However, Extras is hysterical and was probably overlooked because of The Office...

Outstanding Drama Series: Grey's Anatomy, House, The Sopranos, 24, The West Wing
Where the frak is Battlestar Galactica?!?! That is the best show currently on television and, let's face it, wasn't included because its considered science-fiction. However, anyone who has seen this show knows that its more about human drama and the relationships between members of a society than stereotypical science fiction. I think Wil Wheaton explained it best (although I don't have the exact quote handy so I'm paraphrasing sentiment here), Firefly picked up where Star Trek left off but Battlestar redefined the entire genre. I enjoy all the shows that were nominated but The Sopranos? And The West Wing? While West Wing improved this past season from the previous, it still was no where near what Battlestar tackles.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Larry David, Kevin James, Tony Shaloub, Steve Carrell, Charlie Sheen
Um, where's Zach Braff? Or Jason Bateman? Ricky Gervais?

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Christopher Meloni, Denis Leary, Peter Krause, Keifer Sutherland, Martin Sheen
Okay, I enjoy watching Christopher Meloni's work because I always see him as the Gene in Wet Hot American Summer and I'm happy for Denis Leary and Keifer Sutherland, and even Peter Krause to an extent because I loved Sports Night but Martin Sheen? Now, in previous years I would support this but for this last season, Bartlett was hardly there! It was more about Alan Alda and Jimmy Smitts than Sheen! Where is Edward James Olmos?!?! Adama deserves a nomination!

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy: Lisa Kudrow, Jane Kaczmarek, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Stockard Channing, Debra Messing
Uh...where's Lauren Graham? Now, I enjoy Stockard Channing on The West Wing but a nomination for Out of Practice? And don't get me started on Will & Grace. The show stopped being funny and original years ago but for some reason the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences likes to reward just being there.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama: Kyra Sedgwick, Geena Davis, Mariska Hargitay, Frances Conroy, Allison Janney
I love The Closer so I can support Kyra Sedgwick's nomination. And, for the most part, I enjoy the other actors' work as well. But the nominations of Conroy and Janney have to be pity votes for the show coming to an end. That may also explain the presence of Will & Grace, and possibly Davis. The person who should have owned this category was Mary McDonnell. As President, and then former President, Roslin she has owned everything and I don't know that Battlestar would have the same effect if she wasn't there. My "Don't blame me I voted Roslin" button suddenly takes on new meaning. Also, Kristen Bell, people! Veronica Mars rules!

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Will Arnett, Jeremy Piven, Bryan Cranston, Jon Cryer, Sean Hayes
I like everyone in this category and can support Arnett (I love GOB!) and Piven (LHIOB!) but where are the guys from Scrubs? Donald Faison doing air guitar in one episode was enough to warrant a nom, even if he wouldn't have won.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama: William Shatner, Oliver Platt, Michael Imperioli, Gregory Itzin, Alan Alda
Again, anyone from Battlestar...Apollo, Baltar, hell, even Tigh. I admit that Itzin was great as the president on 24 and I like Alda but...AH!

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy: Cheryl Hines, Alfre Woodard, Jaime Pressly, Elizabeth Perkins, Megan Mullally
So, apparently, you can get nominated for barely being in a show and having a really crappy storyline. I think Woodard is a great actor but she was in, like, thirty seconds of an entire season!

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama: Candice Bergen, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Blythe Danner, Jean Smart
Alrighty, Smart was fantastic this season, as were both Oh and Wilson but again, Battlestar. There have been times when I have hated Starbuck but Katee Sackhoff adds little pieces that are fantasic. Also, check out Tricia Helfer's performance. You can tell the difference with each version of Six, from the one in Baltar's head to Caprica Six and its all because of her performance.

I'll have to go on about the rest later...
