Yea! I went to Walmart and got all that stuff, and I wish I had a digital camera to show you the result! Its a huge cage when completed, I was really impressed. Ive put my two in it, and they've been sniffing it and checking it out all night and morning. Its the first time they've ever had a cage that big with a hammock and all. And, Ive made a decision about them. When the babies are born, if they live and all goes well, Im going to give the dad up for adoption to someone, then, when the babies are weaned, Im keeping two or three of the best girls and giving the rest of the babies and the mom away. Ive not really bonded with her, shes too agressive after life in a petstore tank, and I dont want to mess with having boys anymore, so Ill have the chance to start over with the babies and have them as I want them. So they'll have the big ole cage to themselves, and Ill have my dream ratties, lol. Im just happy to finally have something in my life that Im used to and have wanted for awhile. Thanks for all the help and advice!
I miss West Virginia :(
Toodles!

Whew, Im glad you didnt take all that as bein preachy or something! Im glad it worked out, it prolly looks awesome :D Mine has three levels and Im already begging josh if I can buy one more pack of panels to add a fourth level- it will be MASSIVE then though, LOL and its not the prettiest with all those crazy colors.

Im going to have to deal with adoption or finding a nice /nonfeeder petstore soon- babies only have a week and 1/2 left before weaning. Since I have two cages now, seperating isnt an issue, but the poor girls are all gonna be packed into a cage way to small for their numbers, so I need to do SOMETHING about the girls atleast a.s.a.p. I dont want to to boys, but i have some time to find them homes as they have the big colorful cage to themselves (only 3 of them). So thats good for them. I will probably find homes for lulu, hushy, the all black girl (since chi is already that same coloring), and the hooded girl (since she looks just like butterfly) and find them homes. Then Ill just have:

Baby1 and baby2- both unnamed still
Blueberry, chi, evee, happy and still only buttzilla until she dies. Im pretty sure about it now. Just need to find them homes! >.

Im hoping for a black hooded and an all black, but I have a feeling Ill end up with all blah colors, lol. My cage is just the two levels, with a ramp and platform.. I used the tub lid instead of the tub, I cut notches in it to hold the cage into place, and it works really well. Some day Ill expand on it, but its big enough as it is now and I wont have room in my apartment if I make it bigger! But they like it, and I like it. And I love the colors, lol.
Nah, not preachy. Helpful advice, more like. And I needed it. Im used to cats and dogs, so this is almost new to me.

The lid- thats a good idea too! The only thing I can think of you might want to be careful of in the long run is that if your cage is sitting infront of a wall- after about a year you will move the cage and notice a solid block of yellow wall. They pee out of the cage alot of times- and I learned this the hard way. On the message boards people had ideas of attaching a shower curtain to the wall behind the cage..putting up poster board on the wall behind the cage..attaching towels to the wall that you can take down and wash.. I didnt want to attach anything to my walls so I bought the poster board used for like science fair projects (foam trifold board?) and cut it to fit like a box around my girls cage- I have to take it off now and then to scrub the pee off of it- but my carpet and walls are safe. I had them in the bedroom for months against a wall and infront of the heat vent..when I moved them there had been so much pee on the metal heat vent that it had corroded and rusted and I had to sit and scrub it with that stuff that comes in a grey bottle that eats rust- it was not fun. PLUS I had to scrub my carpet in that area with pet pee cleaner etc. It was not fun >.<

When I first made my cage is was just two levels two (one ramp and a half level) but now Ive built it up a level higher so they -can- pee out of there. Not sure what Ill do yet- hopefully I wont have the babies long and I wont have to worry about it! Ive already found homes for 2 of the girls, and maybe the boys too- not sure. Its going good!
