The
Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology II went live today, and it's kind of completely mindblowing. In the words of
cantarina1, "This collection brings together 104 woman-centered stories by 86 different authors and 47 different podficcers in 64 fandoms, for a total running time of a little over seven and a half hours!!!" I missed out on contributing to
last year's Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology, but was fortunate enough to have five podfics included in this incredible endeavor. (Fun fact: the mods were Very Serious about the 1500 words or less size limit for stories - I found an excellent fic that was only 42 words over the limit, but it ultimately got the chop. Maybe I'll save it for amplificathon 2012?) Annnnnnnyway. In an effort to keep this journal up-to-date, podfic-wise (chhhyeah, like that's happening on a regular basis - I used to have a schedule of podfic posting once upon a time, but lately it's been far more sporadic and long-term between new audiofic presentations), may I present: some podfics of Very Awesome Ladies!
The Beginning or Middlish Part of a Harry Potter Publishing AU, written by
lalejandra: post-all-of-the-Harry-Potter-series and Non-Epilogue-Compliant, this fic features Hermione working at a Wizarding publishing company and looking for a new hire. Her selection process and list of job qualifications are....unique, to say the least. But she's so very Hermione in this story - snippy, and sure of herself, and I loved how she returned to her love of books. Clocking in at five minutes long, you can find this podfic
over here (thanks,

Rittevon Shoes, written by
boosette: a pre-series look at the socio-political scene on the Copper Isles, as seen through the window of a shoe shop, this fic is part of the amazing Tortall universe of stories created by Tamora Pierce. Specifically, this little slice-of-life for Winnamine and Sarugani takes place long before the books Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen - both of which I've actually listened to as audiobooks, once upon a time.... okay, fine, it was two summers ago. I really liked how Sarugani is such a vivid character in this story, even though she's actually dead during the series - it's a true tribute to the author that she's able to craft a believable characterization, based only on second-hand knowledge gleaned from the opinions of characters who knew Sarugani, y'know? Running just four minutes long, you can find this podfic

her name is eve, written by
pprfaith: containing spoilers for just about all of series five Doctor Who, this is the fic that broke my boycott of Matt Smith. Well, sort of - it lured me in with promises of awesome Amy Pond, and then I was left tolerating Matt Smith completely without my consent by the time I finished reading. (Seriously - I pretty much skipped all of series five because I was so peeved about the weirdness that was the Eleventh Doctor's Characterization...but I eventually got over myself, and the Amy Pond of this story helped with that process tremendously.) The longest of the bunch, this podfic is nine minutes long and can be found
over here (thank you,

She gets them Home, written by
boosette: Number One doesn't actually show up at all in the Star Trek Reboot movie that came out in 2009, but if she had, she would have been exactly this girl. Smart to the point of brusqueness, Number One gets to show really her stuff while taking command during her turn at the Kobayashi Maru. Funny story (though it pretty much makes me a terrible fangirl): I'd never seen a full episode of any Star Trek series until 2007 (and I've still never seen a full episode with Number One in it). Don't hate me...... This podfic is nearly five minutes long, and can be found
over here (thanks again,
paraka), or you can stream the story by clicking below:
Wheatstalk of Infinite Light, written by
boosette: another pre-canon story, this time we get to see Winona Kirk begin her love affair with outer space. For all that this is the shortest of the bunch (just under four minutes), I think it also has some of the most detailed, most striking, most vivid descriptions - the horizon at night on Earth, the black-out curtains in cities, the way the vastness of space just goes on and on for Winona the first time she sees a non-light-pollution'd sky.... Also, I really wish my first grade class had gone on a trip to the Moon (we just went to the Coney Island Aquarium, and it wasn't even my first visit there). You can find this podfic

So, that's that! You should absolutely check out the Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology II, because it is incredible: how many amazing voices contributed, how much effort was put into making the final anthology, how stunning the coverart is, how awesome the ladies are.... the list of reasons is pretty long. (And, if downloading over seven hours of podfic in unknown fandoms is not for you, there's also the option to download the individual podfics as distinct mp3s.) Seriously - go be awesome, and have a listen!
