math jokes and myths
So I was helping Littlest Sis with her math homework, and it was one of those sheets where every time you solve a problem correctly, it spells out part of the answer to a joke. When she'd finished the page, she asked me, "What did the boy volcano say to the girl volcano?" Without thinking, I answered, "Blow me."
'Cause volcanoes blow up.
Yeah, the correct answer to the second-grade math joke was actually, "I lava you." Not "Blow me." Age-appropriateness, my name is not.

In other non-second-grade-appropriate news, we have long-overdue podfic. (urg - thank you germs, for throwing off my schedule.) The story in question is caitri's "Once Shot, Twice Shy", and its coda, "Bad Odds and Sex Pollen". It's another Kirk/Cupid!McCoy fic, and just as awesome as "Draw Back Your Bow". Point of fact, I read the two stories within 30 minutes of each other, and discovered a new favorite crossover pairing. And to think, I previously only adored Kirk/Reaper!McCoy as my particular Star Trek Reboot mixtape honeys... This one's got humor, and a greater depth of character for the mythological side of things (and even a character (Hedone) that I was surprised to see mentioned, because outside of a few (more esoteric) myths, she doesn't really get much play-time) and a really good reason for Bones to tell Jim, "My wife got the planet in the divorce."
Before reading Once Shot, Twice Shy, I really wasn't very familiar with Xena-cannon. After recording it, I am still not very familiar with it, either. Aside from a proliferation of leather armor on girls that can't possibly be supportive, much less comfortable - cold! chaffing! shrinkage in the wash! rashes! - youtube was not very helpful with giving me clips of actual screentime episodes to work off. So, if I've gotten any of the particular Gods and Goddesses wrong....well, I didn't know any better. Please don't smite me! (I was able, however, to find the theme music from the Xena: Warrior Princess tv show, so that's the music used as a section-break. Hey, it's thematic, ok?)
