Author's Summary: "How does someone go from tracking an unknown target to diving to certain death through an impassible hurricane in order to save them? Maybe it goes a bit like this: a few death-defying feats of bravery, a fair bit of flirtation, a whole boatload of social awkwardness, a generous spoonful of sexual attraction. Mix with jokes, touching, taking care of each other, and trust. Season liberally with the spice of the forbidden and some good old-fashioned hormones, and add just a dash of where have you been all my life. Maybe it's not a recipe for true love- but what a way to start.
Or: Caine Wise, from first rescue to last."

Why I Love It: Ugh, I keep falling behind on posting a podfic a day... so to make up for missing one yesterday in favor of watching Guardians of the Galaxy with the NYCFanBrunch folks, I'm posting an EXTRA LONG podfic today. And the thing is, this podfic kind of ties in with yesterday's amazingness... as in, I started reading it on the train into the City, finished reading it on the train out of the City, and began recording it at 11:47pm Saturday evening. I've spent most of today eaither recording while family members napped, or recording while it was that time of night where it's technically tomorrow morning - but I almost don't even care about the sleep hangover I'll have on Monday, because this story is JUST THAT GOOD. It's the events of Jupiter Ascending from Caine's perspective, so there's all sorts of backstory: why Caine took the job from Titus in the first place, WEE BABY LYCANTANT CAINE, the importance of pack structure and support for lycantant survival, why Caine's rocking the strong-but-silent vibe, even some history between Caine and Stinger (and the repercussions of that betrayal). For all that he's the space equivalent of an Airforce pilot, Caine's inner monologue has the mouth of a sailor. This story's structure does rely heavily on the assumption that you're aleady familiar with the movie - it's more "scenes that happened off-screen", with less focus on rehashing scenes you've already lived through from Jupiter's perspective - so I'd advide a rewatch party when the DVD of Jupiter Ascending comes out in order to appreciate this podfic fully. But it's so good, it really is. I particularly loved the contrast between the external Caine and the internal Caine, as depicted in this fic. For all sorts of Tragic Backstory reasons, there's a very delibrerate schism between the Caine that's for public consumption.... and the Caine who's for Jupiter's mouth only. By the end of recording this podfic, I just wanted to wrap Caine in a couple microfiber blankets and make him some hot chocolate. As for the coverart, I went with something that focussed on the arm tattoo - the whole conversation about Caine's ink made me SO FULL OF JOY for the backstory and the feelings, and I wanteed to show that off in the coverart. I did a lot of research for this podfic cover - I looked at a lot of images of Caine to get the right one. Also, biceps.
(This fic was so good for me, it really was.)
