The lack of quotation marks for the dialogue takes a minute to get used to, but, guh, so worth the effort.

It’s a nice “how we met” story that sounds really good and looks great on paper. It’s not exactly true, though. I love this. Michael's an awkward teenager at Olympic trials and Ryan is Ryan, heh.
Break Even by peirsol_fan Phelps/Lochte | R. Michael doesn't choose to be friends with Ryan. No one does, and Ryan is simply there and at some point, Michael realizes that Ryan is the only man he has ever had a positive relationship with that is only about him. Lovely mood about this fic and how the two of them balance each other out. Bonus: The awesomest, most accurate description of Ryan evah lol: Ryan is his own state, neither one or the other, some unique genetic mix that is equal parts Tony Hawk, Scooby Gang, and Sea World. Jeah!
