Goats - Madeline and Richie and a flingthing
Madeline was in heat yesterday morning, so last night I took the bet that she was still in heat and threw her in with Richie for a night and a day. Madeline is Mona x Jared, and Richie is Talla x Baja, so this is an opportunity to have Madeline kid for the first time without crossing the streams. Madeline has a soft fuzzy fleece and Richie has the curls I want on my kids. Tune in for an April Fools baby.
Unfortunately, I'm concerned that Madeline might have either bent or broken Richie. He mounted her, rammed it home, and she took a hard right turn on him. He didn't yell or fall over or hunch up, but he also didn't try anything again in my half hour of watching.
Additionally, Richie was awfully calm this morning when I went out to feed everyone. Hopefully he's just sore and things will be ok. I need to keep an eye on him to make sure that the regular plumbing is ok, too.
I am tempted to put Anna in with Richie when next she flags, and see what they can create. We'll see. There is a high likelihood of white kids from that pairing, which I don't want or need. Dahlia x Ari is the pairing that I really want to succeed, which is why they are spending a quality seven weeks together.
