Contemplating upcoming goat babies, colors, etc.
As mentioned back on October 5th, a modest breeding season was put in place. Ari got to strut his stuff with Dahlia and Ginger.
Kids are due March 4th or later. Last year, Ginger took three heat cycles to catch, and Dahlia kidded two weeks after introduction. So I'm not holding my breath for day-1 kids this year.
My kid expectations are: 2, 3, or 4 kids (singles, twins, or a mix from the two moms). I'm really expecting 3 or 2, but not 4. Ginger only has Taffy to her record; Dahlia has twinned only once last year.
Ari has never stood stud, so I have no idea if he throws girls or boys. So my completely random guess is: if each goat only has one kid, that I'll get one of each.
Given all of the genetics in the post linked above, I'm assuming that Ari is a double-dominant Black and Red. With those colors, his chances of having white kids are unfortunately pretty high. Dominant and recessive black genes usually don't blend well (Anna being a possible exception), as demonstrated by Dahlia-x-Cookie last year = two bright white kids. Additionally, if he ends up trying to combine his Black with Ginger's Red, we might end up with any of the three colors.
I'm hoping for a little black girl that I can name "Hix" out of McKinley's Shadows. If I get two, the other one might be Corbyn from Bishop's Written in Red.
One of the white boys will be Samuel (Mercedes Thompson series - Samuel turns into a white werewolf tagged "Snowball" when he changes.)
