Veterans Day is Donation Day!

Nov 08, 2012 12:01

I posted on Tuesday that I signed up to give blood next Monday. In talking with Amazonmink, she mentioned that she thought it was such a good idea, she signed herself and Thunderbird up to donate blood on Monday as well.

So let's make this a donation drive! I would like to invite everyone who reads my LJ to celebrate Veterans Day with a small sacrifice of your own. I challenge everyone to make the Monday holiday (if you have it off) the day you donate something! It doesn't have to be blood, of course. Your donation can be stuff, time, or money. Clean out your closet and make a drop-off visit to the Salvation Army or call Vietnam Veterans of America for a pick-up. Check out Paralyzed Veterans of America and see if they need help.

If you are absolutely anti-war, go for peace. There are plenty of food banks out there that could use help. Or you can sit at your computer, join the Kiva microfinance institution, and help people around the world.

I hope that I can make this a habit. I need to pay more attention to the rest of the world, and celebrating the sacrifice of others with effort of my own just feels right.

Also, in case you wanted to know, there are a lot of Veteran discounts and freebies out there for Monday.
