Minty fresh pastures

Jul 22, 2012 21:27

I just fought the horse-mint battle yet again in the front pasture. I mowed down everything that was taller than four inches (mint, thistles, broadleaf whatever)... I know that there are ways to win this war more conclusively, but I refuse to use chemicals on a pasture where I expect my animals to eat.

Now that I've scalped the front left field and given the front right field a high fade, all of the boys are in the right field together to let the left one recover. This caused some amount of smacking and scrambling as Ari declared his undying lust for Loki and Owen started mounting his father Cookie. They eventually all settled down to eat.

Due to the fabulous new fencing configuration, I can still ensure that the boys have access to the entire barn, by closing the left run gate but opening the dividing gate/fence panel between the two runs, so anyone who enters the right run can either go straight up into the right side of the barn, or turn left and go up to the left side of the barn. And if I need to catch everyone, I can just close off the right run gate. Ha ha!
