That should stop the snow

Feb 14, 2010 21:37

I just ordered snow chains for the truck as well as for the snowblower. As soon as they arrive, we should instantly have no more reason to use them this year.

Alakazaam!

(Note that they have to arrive first. Until the UPS delivery actually gets here, this invocation of Saint Murphy will not net anything useful.)

Well, we bought my parents a generator 5 years ago, and their power hasn't gone out since, so it's worked in one case at least. :)

I have to say...I never thought about chains for the snow blower. But given your drive, that makes tons of sense.

Enjoy tomorrow's snow. We've already heard that the snow-day make-up day for Arlington and Fairfax tomorrow has been canceled - due to snow. I giggle at the irony.

I really hadn't either, until CK asked if the company sold them. The 20+ inches in one blow was really tough for the snowblower to plow through, especially going up hill.

Yes, school is canceled. The [fill in expletives here] morons around here who don't clean off their sidewalks don't realize that it impacts school openings.

RE cleaning of sidewalks: I didn't realize that not-shoveling could cause schools not to open. Is that district-wide (due to no place to wait for busses) or just near the schools (for people who walk from nearby)?

One nice thing about the county not intaling sidewalks at our house is that we don't have to shovel them (which on a corner lot, would be a LOT of shoveling). But I will keep that in mind in case the next house has sidewalks. Thank you.

It's district-wide. The county is looking at all neighborhoods, not just the ones within the 1-mile walking radius. The reports are that there are too many places where there are no safe bus stops. The children cannot wait safely for the buses (out of the street), or reach the bus stops safely (without walking in the street).

There is some debate about liability for sidewalk accidents. As I was taught, responsibility for sidewalk clearing rests on the homeowner. However, in FxCnty, unlike in DC, there is no law stating such. Here's a non-authoritative reference about that at WTOP News.

I've decided a bigger machine is in my future, and it most likely will have a snow blower, and chains.

I figure thats a talisman for 5 years of low snow.

Wow. Yes. That's a far larger capital outlay than just snowchains and new tires.
