All right, so I know people have asked in the past about places to get haircuts. Here is my thing: I have A. LOT. of hair (as those of you who know me will remember), and it is curly and generally unruly. I have decided that this is just ridiculous, and it's okay for me to my hair not be completely archaic, not to mention annoying. So while I want to keep my hair pretty long, I'd like it be a little shorter and a lot prettier. Can anyone recommend somewhere that is:
1. Very, very good. I am willing to pay a lot of money, because I want a haircut that doesn't suck.
2. Staffed by people who will not freak out when they see my hair, or when I call in advance to set up the appointment and warn them of the situation.
3. Particularly known to make people with long curly hair who want to keep their hair relatively long look cute.
4. Going to listen to what I want. This should go without saying, but it seems not to.
5. Uh... that's all I can think of. Oh, I guess that this is unlikely, but I'd prefer somewhere that won't be weirded out by what a big, unfashionable, hairy dyke I am and will just give me a nice haircut without trying to sell me shit. I'm not going to find somewhere that meets this, am I?
Keep in mind too that I haven't had a hair cut (except when I had my girlfriend cut off 8 inches of scraggly ends using my sewing scissors) in well over 10 years, and the last time I was in a salon was when I got my hair done for prom (and nearly gave the poor man a heart attack when he found out that I wasn't kidding when I said I had waist-length curly hair), so I am not well-versed in these things. If anyone has had the experience of getting a haircut after a major hiatus, I'd like to hear about it.
